Supervisor Patient Financial Services

JOB SUMMARY:

  • The Supervisor of Patient Financial Services assists with the day-to-day management of the Patient Financial Services department and provides backup to the department Director.  In this capacity, is responsible for all patient billing and collection functions for the hospital.  Ensures that the billing and collection functions are performed in accordance with all local, state and federal regulations and are compliant with specific requirements of insurance companies.  Establishes processes and applies technology to facilitate efficient, timely and accurate collection on patient accounts.

PRE-REQUISITES:

  • Education:
    • Associate's degree preferred
  • Experience:
    • Five years of medical billing experience required, knowledge of medical terminology.  Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Special Skills:
    • Must be able to understand and provide written and verbal instructions, pertaining to medical billing and appeals. Demonstrates an eye for detail and critical decision making to coordinate back office operations. Ability to work in fast paced environment and communicate with people at all times in a professional and tactful manner. Must have excellent computer skills using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and the practice management and electronic medical record systems. Must be detail oriented and be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and prioritize appropriately.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Oversees the daily operations of the Patient Financial Service Department.
  • Serves as point person for staff for assistance with account resolution, patient complaints and refunds and adjustments.
  • Aids in prioritizing workloads
  • Responds to multiple departmental inquiries, including but not limited to ADHOC report requests and charge corrections.
  • Assists Manager in maintaining the CDM, including new requests and utility changes.
  • Works Charge rejections and missing system assigned dictionary edits that can include dictionary maintenance and edits.
  • Performs month-end reporting, quarterly audits of the Patient Financial Service staff to ensure proper protocols are being followed to optimize the revenue cycle. – Works with the team and manager to effectively re-direct workflows in order to meet metrics and targets set for the department.
  • Meets productivity and performance standards as set by the department manager.
  • Maintains current knowledge of all state and federal requirements related to claims submission.
  • All other managerial duties as assigned
