POSITION PURPOSE
The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for leading a group of 10-20 union associates, including machine operators and maintenance mechanics. This role supports production schedules by ensuring readiness through proper planning, parts availability, and tooling to enable quick and efficient changeovers. The Maintenance Supervisor monitors, services, repairs, and maintains all production equipment across one (1) assigned shift.
The primary focus of this position is to minimize downtime and maximize production output while meeting company safety, quality, cost, and productivity standards.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES
Direct and coordinate the mechanical and electrical integrity of the assigned machine group to meet company production goals.
Communicate and report daily with the Maintenance Manager and Production Manager.
Be actively present on the production floor, routinely checking production lines and all required documentation throughout the shift.
Ensure that preventive maintenance (PM) and unscheduled work tickets are completed, or that plans for completion are clearly established.
Verify that machines are ready for start-up in accordance with production schedules.
Ensure that information related to next-shift mechanical requirements is properly communicated to appropriate personnel.
Collaborate with Production Shift Supervisors, Team Leaders, and other stakeholders to identify and prioritize technical issues preventing machines from achieving target performance.
Assist Production Management in identifying and resolving non-maintenance-related issues.
Support the definition of specification requirements for raw materials.
Assist Building Maintenance in emergency situations as needed.
Monitor parts inventory levels during and after repairs to ensure appropriate stock quantities are maintained.
Administer payroll, discipline, and other clerical responsibilities for direct reports.
Evaluate the performance of direct reports and provide coaching and mentoring as needed.
Ensure all maintenance team members are trained on departmental SOPs and company policies.
Work closely with HR and management to hire, onboard, and train new employees.
Build positive relationships with crew members by setting clear expectations and ensuring consistent application of rules related to cross-training, promotions, and employee development.
Review employee performance with management as needed.
Partner with the Maintenance Manager to ensure all maintenance SOPs and work instructions are accurate and up to date.
Ensure smooth handoff between shifts by providing the incoming supervisor with complete information regarding line status, equipment issues, and outstanding actions.
Complete end-of-shift reports and ensure all line reports, batch records, line clearances, and related documentation are properly completed by operators and mechanics.
Be willing to work overtime, including Saturdays and Sundays, as required by production demand to ensure adequate shift coverage.

QUALIFICATIONSEDUCATION/CERTIFICATION
College or trade school graduate, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE
Demonstrated technical ability to set up and troubleshoot high-speed packaging equipment in a regulated manufacturing environment.
Proficiency in using a variety of mechanical measuring instruments.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Minimum of five (5) years of supervisory experience in a comparable manufacturing or industrial environment.
At least three (3) years of hands-on experience working with packaging equipment.
SKILLS/ABILITIES
Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced, 24-hour manufacturing environment.
Strong team-building and leadership skills.
Proven ability to hire, train, coach, and evaluate the performance of direct reports.
Bilingual Spanish proficiency preferred.
PLC experience preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed primarily in a manufacturing production environment.
Regular exposure to machinery, noise, temperature variations, and hazardous or industrial chemicals.
Requires frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting (up to 50 lbs., with or without reasonable accommodation).
PPE is required in designated areas.
Must be available for overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed to support a 24-hour operation.
SALARY RANGE
$75,000 - $90,000, plus bonus
