Job Description and Duties

Under the general direction of the Chief of Business Management (Supervisor II), the Supervisor I provides direct supervision and technical leadership to the district's human resources (HR) team. The incumbent plans, organizes, and directs the work of staff; provides coaching and development; and performs the more complex and sensitive HR assignments requiring independent judgment. The incumbent ensures the consistent, timely, and high-quality delivery of HR services to district programs and employees and applies strong analytical skills and sound decision-making to administer a broad range of personnel management functions. The incumbent advances the department's mission, vision, values, and organizational goals through effective HR leadership while ensuring adherence to state and federal laws, regulations, policies, and collective bargaining agreements.

For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions.   • Describe your experience performing human resources (HR) functions, including the specific HR areas you have worked in and the types of responsibilities you have carried out. Include examples that demonstrate your knowledge, skills, and competencies in HR.
  • Explain your experience interpreting and applying California and Federal HR laws, regulations, California Department of Human Resources (CalHR) and State Personnel Board (SPB) rules, collective bargaining agreements, and departmental policies in the course of your work. Describe how you ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance when making decisions or advising others.
