Program Information:

The Shoreline College Dental Hygiene Program is located at the University of Washington School of Dentistry and has the following features:

Position Summary: This dentist will be assigned to the Shoreline Dental Hygiene Program Restorative Clinic located at the UW School of Dentistry. Clinical work includes cavity preparations working in collaboration with dental hygiene instructors and dental/dental hygiene students.

Qualifications Required:

Education & Experience: Current license to practice as a dentist in Washington State Experience teaching in a professional-technical education setting

Knowledge of: • Microsoft Office programs, learning management systems, and other appropriate instructional and clinical technologies, including Electronic Health Records and HIPAA • Industry laws and regulations • Skill in: • Fostering a climate of equity and belonging through multicultural awareness and responsiveness • Imparting excitement and enthusiasm into the instruction of Dental Hygiene • Adapting to a variety of teaching situations, including working effectively in both the classroom and other teaching environments • Working and communicating effectively with colleagues, staff, students, administrators, and others of various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds • Incorporating a variety of creative teaching methods to address different learning styles • Relating and inspiring students, ranging from reaching out to those students in need of help to challenging the best students • Handling difficult or sensitive situations using sound independent judgment within legal guidelines

Conditions of Employment:

Physical Work Environment: Work is usually performed in a clinic, laboratory, or classroom space that requires standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time. Instructors use appropriate PPE as well as computers and media equipment in the work environment.

Terms of Employment: This is a part-time, non-tenured, quarter-to-quarter assignment. Salary is dependent upon the number of contact hours for this assignment as provided in the agreement with the Shoreline College Federation of Teachers. Hiring of this position is contingent upon available funding as determined by the College President.

PART-TIME FACULTY POSITION

A part-time faculty member becomes eligible for benefits at the beginning of the second consecutive quarter of half time or more employment at one or more Washington state institutions of higher education. Spring and fall quarters are considered consecutive quarters for benefits eligibility. Half time is determined based on each institutions definition of full time.

A part-time faculty member must qualify each quarter they teach to maintain eligibility. Once eligible, part-time faculty will be notified of their benefit and retirement options.
