Sunset — Account Executive, Wind-Down
Type: Full-time | On-site | New York City, NY (Dumbo, Brooklyn)
Compensation: $150K base / $320K OTE (uncapped) + equity
Hiring count: 2
Visa sponsorship: None available
Reports to: Founder (name not disclosed on role page)
About Sunset
Sunset helps founders wind down their companies — owning the legal, tax, and operational work of a shutdown while monetizing the company's existing data and IP. The underlying thesis: the day-to-day data businesses generate (collaboration, communication, building) is some of the most valuable training data in the world, and the next generation of model progress depends on real, proprietary business data rather than public or synthetic sources. Sunset is a primary source of that data, partnering directly with the frontier labs building what comes next.
Founded: 2023 | Team size: 11-50 (Seed) | Backing: Floodgate, Afore, Ludlow, Hustle Fund (recently raised again)
Traction: $0 to a multi-million run rate in a matter of months; multiple million in revenue in a single recent month; works with essentially all frontier labs, frontier data labelers, and RL environment teams. Team is more than doubling, with ~14-15 additional engineers planned.
Industry: Legal Tech

Office: Dumbo, Brooklyn (New York City)
Why Candidates Should Join
- Ground-floor seat at a category-defining business: $0 to multi-million run rate in months, backed by top-tier seed investors, selling into every frontier AI lab.
- Uncapped, high-leverage comp: $150K base with $180K uncapped variable ($1,500/dataset), reporting directly to the founder inside a small, high-intensity pod.
- Consultative, meaningful sale: you help founders through one of the hardest moments in their company's life, and trust built compounds into a referral-driven pipeline.
Intake Call Summary
- The role page includes an intake video, but no transcript was available in the copied HTML — no intake summary could be extracted. (If an intake transcript becomes available, fold its key points in here.)
The Role
Run the sales motion that helps founders shut down operations and return more capital to investors, owning qualified deals end to end — from first conversation through signed close — while negotiating the data and legal terms underneath each deal.
What You'll Be Doing
- Build your own pipeline of sales opportunities on top of inbound referral flow (VCs, lawyers, other founders, CFOs)
- Have consultative, empathetic conversations with founders navigating the shutdown of their company — never pushy, always oriented toward genuinely helping (including pointing them elsewhere, e.g. an acqui-hire, when Sunset isn't the right fit)
- Negotiate data pricing and legal terms, and know when to walk away from a bad-fit deal
- Take the existing playbook, adapt it, and make it better as you learn what works
- Become a subject-matter expert on wind-downs and data licensing
- Sit inside a small pod alongside another AE and an SDR, reporting directly to the Founder
Tech stack: N/A (sales role)
Requirements
- Build and manage own sales pipeline
- Own qualified deals end-to-end from first conversation through signed close
- Have consultative conversations with founders about wind-downs
- Negotiate data pricing and legal terms
- Become subject-matter expert on wind-downs and data licensing
- Work in-person 5 days per week from Dumbo office
- 2-4+ years in client-facing environment such as enterprise sales, consulting, investment banking, partnerships, business development, or data deals
- Demonstrate track record of hitting or exceeding quota, revenue, or deals closed
- High EQ and IQ with ability to learn complex subjects around privacy, legal, and compliance
Green Flags
- Comes from enterprise or B2B SaaS sales, top-tier consulting, or a client-facing seat at an investment bank (Goldman, JPM), with the polish and acumen to handle technical and legal objections
- Concrete, individually-attributable track record of exceeding a number, not a seat inside a large cohort
- Consultative and empathetic operator who can build trust with founders during a shutdown and walk away from a bad-fit deal
- Genuine hunter who self-sources pipeline and wants to be measured on deals they closed from scratch
- High-slope generalist who can master complex privacy, legal, and compliance material quickly
Red Flags
- Seeks a work-life-balance environment; the culture is high-intensity and expects candidates who want to work hard and get after it
- Pushy, transactional closer who cannot read a sensitive room or would push a wind-down on a founder who is not ready
- Inbound-dependent seller who waits on leads rather than hunting their own pipeline
- Track record that lives inside a team number with no individual performance signal
- No startup experience or discomfort operating without a fixed, mature playbook
