Compassionate Addiction Treatment (CAT) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization serving Spokane, Washington. Our mission is to provide compassionate, holistic care to people experiencing substance use disorders in a safe, therapeutic, and community-centered environment.

CAT is an innovative outpatient treatment center in downtown Spokane. We provide IOP/OP substance use disorder treatment, Certified Peer Counseling, medication-assisted treatment, housing and employment case management, outreach, reentry support, recovery-based shelter services, wound care, and other supportive services for community members who are experiencing or have experienced homelessness.

CAT is focused on removing barriers to treatment while building trust, hope, connection, and personal empowerment.

Position Summary

CAT is seeking a full-time SUDP Lead Counselor for our IOP/OP program.

This role is primarily focused on supporting clinical quality, documentation integrity, and SUDPT skill development. The SUDP Lead Counselor will review documentation completed by SUDPT staff, provide clear and supportive feedback, and help developing clinicians strengthen their clinical reasoning, ASAM application, individualized service planning, progress note quality, assessment skills, and ethical documentation practices.

This position is designed for someone who can inspire and support developing clinicians while helping them build confidence, clinical judgment, and compassionate accountability. The SUDP Lead Counselor works under the supervision of the Clinical Supervisor and closely with the Director of IOP/OP to support consistent, trauma-informed, clinically meaningful care.

In addition to lead responsibilities, this position will carry a small clinical caseload and may complete assessments, provide individual counseling, facilitate groups, and support intake, transition, and discharge processes as needed.

Key Responsibilities

• Review SUDPT documentation, including assessments, individualized service plans, progress notes, monthly reports, discharge summaries, and related clinical documentation.
• Provide timely, constructive feedback that supports documentation quality, clinical accuracy, ASAM application, and ethical practice.
• Support SUDPT staff in strengthening clinical reasoning, session structure, treatment planning, intervention use, and client engagement.
• Help SUDPT staff connect assessment information, ASAM dimensions, service plans, session content, and progress notes.
• Inspire and support developing clinicians by modeling curiosity, clinical thoughtfulness, professional accountability, and compassionate client care.
• Identify documentation patterns, training needs, or clinical concerns and communicate them to the Clinical Supervisor and Director of IOP/OP.
• Assist with onboarding, training, mentoring, chart review, and quality improvement activities as assigned.
• Carry a small clinical caseload and provide direct services as needed, including assessments, individual counseling, groups, treatment planning, and discharge planning.
• Work collaboratively with counselors, peer specialists, case managers, MAT providers, outreach workers, shelter staff, reentry staff, and community partners.
• Provide services in a trauma-informed, culturally responsive, harm-reduction oriented, and client-centered manner.

Required Qualifications

• Current Washington State Substance Use Disorder Professional credential in good standing.
• Experience providing substance use disorder assessments and treatment services.
• Strong understanding of ASAM criteria and DSM substance use disorder diagnoses.
• Knowledge of WAC requirements related to SUD treatment services.
• Ability to review clinical documentation and provide clear, supportive, constructive feedback.
• Ability to support SUDPT staff in developing clinical reasoning, treatment planning, documentation quality, and ethical practice.
• Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills.
• Commitment to compassionate, trauma-informed, low-barrier care for people experiencing substance use disorder, homelessness, justice involvement, mental health challenges, and other barriers.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience mentoring, training, or supporting SUDPT staff.
• Experience working in outpatient, intensive outpatient, or low-barrier SUD treatment settings.
• Experience reviewing clinical documentation for quality, compliance, and clinical relevance.
• Familiarity with harm reduction, housing-first principles, recovery-oriented systems of care, and peer-based recovery support.
• Lived experience is valued.

Schedule

Full-time position. Primarily weekdays with an occassional weekday evening.

Compensation

$26.00 – $31.00 per hour, depending on experience.
