Substance Use Disorder Family Specialist
The Substance Use Disorder Family Support Program (SUDFSP-MI) is seeking compassionate, dedicated professionals to provide substance use treatment services to individuals with Child Protective Services/MDHHS involvement in Oakland and Macomb Counties.
This unique in-home program supports parents and caregivers in addressing substance use challenges while strengthening family functioning, safety, and promoting long-term recovery.
As an SUD Family Support Specialist, you will work directly with individuals in their homes or other community-based settings, providing evidence-based substance use treatment, recovery support, and case management services.
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive substance use assessments utilizing the ASAM Continuum criteria.
- Develop individualized treatment plans in partnership with clients, focusing on recovery, family preservation, and personal goals.
- Provide evidenced-based, in-home substance use treatment services over the six-month program period.
- Deliver psychoeducation on the multidimensional aspects of substance use including but not limited to substance use disorders, addiction as a disease, the impact of substance use on parenting and child safety.
- Facilitate relapse prevention planning by identifying triggers, warning signs, high-risk situations, and coping skills.
- Provide ongoing case management services to address barriers to recovery, such as housing and employment instability, connect families with community resources, and support overall individual and family health.
- Maintain accurate documentation and collaborate with MDHHS, treatment providers, and other community partners to support client success.
- Utilize safety planning and education to help families eliminate/ reduce risks
- Attendance and participation in weekly team and supervision meetings, required training and meetings with community partners and/or MDHHS.
- Supporting clients’ preferred recovery pathway through the understanding of multiple pathways of recovery.
- Transport clients and their children in personal vehicle as necessary.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in social work, counseling, psychology or a related field — or a bachelor's degree with strong, relevant experience - required.
- Experience working with individuals and families affected by substance use.
- MCBAP certification or development plan for CADC or CAADC or apply for development within 30 days of hire - required.
- Valid driver’s license, vehicle registration, and auto insurance - required.
- Reliable, responsible, and compassionate.
- Comfortable working in clients’ homes.
Schedule and Compensation
- Schedule: Full-time.
- Shift: Day/afternoon hours with flexibility for evening client visits. On call availability as needed.
- Hybrid remote with weekly in office meetings and in home client appointments.
- Pay rate: $51,500 - $58,500 per year based on experience and certifications.
- Travel: Daily/weekly travel required within service counties (Oakland and Macomb). Mileage reimbursement provided.
