Description The Success Advisor plays a critical role in supporting Wilson Community College's commitment to accessible, student-centered education. This position engages in proactive student recruitment, provides comprehensive academic and career advising, and supports students through ongoing persistence, retention, and completion initiatives. The Success Advisor serves as a primary point of contact for prospective and current students, ensuring they receive accurate information, individualized guidance, and consistent support from enrollment to graduation. This is a full-time, temporary position through June, 2026.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Student Recruitment and Onboarding Provide prospective students with clear and accurate information regarding admissions, program pathways, financial aid basics, college policies, and enrollment steps. Assist students in navigating the application and onboarding process, ensuring a seamless transition to WCC. Participate in recruitment activities, including high school visits, community events, campus tours, and information sessions, consistent with WCC's recruitment approach.

Academic and Career Advising Provide individualized advising to help students explore academic programs aligned with their interests, goals, aptitudes, and career aspirations. Guide students in course selection, degree planning, scheduling, and understanding program requirements. Communicate effectively about transfer options, career pathways, credential stacking, and labor market information.

Persistence, Retention, and Completion Support Monitor student progress throughout each term, identifying potential academic or personal barriers and intervening early. Provide outreach to students who miss advising appointments, demonstrate academic difficulty, or disengage from coursework. Connect students with campus resources including counseling, tutoring, accessibility services, financial aid, and other support programs, consistent with WCC's student development framework. Maintain accurate advising notes, records, and follow-up communication in accordance with college procedures. Participate in and coordinate student success workshops, orientation activities, and success initiatives that promote persistence and completion.

Collaboration and Institutional Support Work closely with faculty, Student Development staff, and program coordinators to ensure alignment of advising, recruitment, and retention strategies. Serve as a consistent point of contact for assigned caseload(s) to ensure holistic, ongoing support. Contribute to the College's institutional effectiveness goals related to student support, advising quality, and retention as outlined in planning documents. Participate in professional development to remain knowledgeable about best practices in advising, student support, and community college retention strategies.

Knowledge of

College programs, policies, and procedures Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) Ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal) in a variety of settings, with people from diverse backgrounds, educational levels, and age groups. Operate a PC, mobile devices, and related software. Use Microsoft Office (word processing, database, presentation, spreadsheets), and relevant applications or internet-based platforms. Provide accurate and appropriate information to students, employees, and visitors. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, administrators, coworkers, and the public.

Education and Experience

Required Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, student affairs, human services, or a related field. Knowledge of academic advising principles, career development frameworks, and student success strategies. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with diverse student populations. Demonated ability to manage multiple tasks, maintain accurate records, and work collaboratively with colleagues.

Preferred Bilingual skills, particularly English and Spanish, are preferred to support communication with diverse populations. Experience advising in a community college environment. Familiarity with CRM systems, student information systems, early-alert tools, or retention software. Experience working with adult learners, first-generation students, or special populations.

Longevity Longevity is a yearly lump-sum payment you receive after working 10 years: Years of Service Longevity Rate Less than 10 0% of Salary 10 but less than 15 1.5% of Salary 15 but less than 20 2.25% of Salary 20 but less than 25 3.25% of Salary 25 or More 4.5% of Salary

Annual Leave You earn 12 days per year (8 hours per month). This leave can accumulate indefinitely. When you retire, available sick hours will convert to creditable service with the Retirement System.

Health Insurance You may join the State Health Plan. There is an employee contribution to the State Health Plan; however, the State pays a portion of the monthly premium as well. Dependents may also be covered. You may elect 70/30 coverage or 80/20 coverage. Upon retirement, coverage may continue; however, it depends on the conditions under which you retire.

Retirement Teachers' and State Employees' Retirement System (TSERS) Six percent of your gross salary as pre-taxed dollars goes into your retirement account monthly. A death benefit of one time's your annual salary (minimum $25,000 and maximum $50,000) is provided to you once you have been in the system for one year. Once you have completed five years in the system, you are considered to be vested.

Disability Income Plan Is provided through TSERS. The plan provides short-term benefits after one year in the system. After a sixty-day waiting period, the plan pays 50% of your salary and longevity up to $3,000 per month for one year. It also provides long-term benefits after you are vested (5 years in the system). The plan pays 65% of your salary and longevity, up to $3,900 per month until the disability ends. Long-term benefits include health coverage and the death benefit. Payments will be reduced if you are receiving social security disability benefits or workers compensation benefits.

Workers Compensation Upon an accidental injury on the job, you will be covered by Workers Compensation. You should notify your supervisor and Human Resources immediately when an accident or injury on the job occurs.

Personal Observation Day Eligible employees may receive 8 hours of paid leave on a single day of personal significance each calendar year. May include days of cultural and/or religious importance, but it is not limited to those. It may be any day that is significant to the eligible employee.
