Substitute School Nurse for Atlantic County Special Services
Position Purpose
- To promote health and safety in the school environment and provide health services to students, faculty and staff; to assist with the teaching of sound health practices
Essential Functions
- Reports to the office upon arrival at school
- Checks for messages or materials requiring immediate attention
- Requests clarification of school rules and procedures if necessary
- Arrives in the Nurse's Ofice on schedule to greet students and remains in the assigned area classroom so that students are effectively supervised
- Maintains the established routines and procedures of the school nurse's ofice
- Supports the other school nurses.
- Provides emergency care in case of sudden illness and administers first-aid in case of injury to students or staff according to established policies and procedures
- Notifies Principal or his/her designee to arrange for immediate examination of any pupil who appears to be under the influence of alcohol or other drugs
- Performs other duties within the scope of his/her employment and certification as may be assigned
Equipment
- Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.
Travel Requirements
- Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

Qualifications Profile
- Valid New Jersey School Nurse Substitute Certificate
- Demonstrated expertise in school health nursing practice and emergency procedures
- Knowledge of child growth and development, community and family dynamics, current health issues and wellness education
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Knowledge of community health and social services resources and ability to communicate effectively with nonschool health professionals and social service agencies
- Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status

Experience
- Successful prior substitute nursing experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.
