POSITION Substitute School NurseLOCATION Varied based on job assignmentSUMMARY OF ASSIGNMENTUnder the direction and supervision of a certificated school nurse and Health Services Director the Substitute School Nurse works as a member of the building and district health services team to meet the needs of individual students coordinate and carry out health care services to the building as necessary within the scope and standards of nursing practice.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONSCurrent WA State RN or LPN license.Washington State Driver&rsquos License.Computer knowledge and experience with electronic record keepingAbility to exercise good judgment and manage time wellPositive motivating and caring attitude towards students.Knowledge and experience maintaining confidentiality consistent with HIPPA & FERPA.Pediatric background and familiarity with childhood health conditions preferredRelates positively to youth and adults of varying socioeconomic cultural and ethnic backgrounds.RESPONSIBILITIESPerform necessary medical procedures under the training and supervision of the District Certificated School Nurse. These include but are not limited to diabetes care tube feeding suctioning and catheterization and monitoring seizure disorders.Assist the Certificated School Nurse in implementing individual health care plans for students with health care needs and update appropriate District staff as needed regarding changes or updates.Perform professional nursing tasks as needed including emergency services and supportive care adhering tothe scope and standards of nursing practiceSupervise designated school staff and participate in the administration of oral medication to students and maintain paperwork as needed.Perform school mandated requirements with immunization and screeningsAddress health care concerns of special education students including personal hygiene care.Assist with state-required screenings ie. Vision Hearing and Scoliosis.Assist with the maintenance of health and immunization records.Work in cooperation with certificated and classified staff to promote a medically effective friendly and caring atmosphere for students and parents.Establish relationships that enhance communication with district personnel.Perform other related duties as assigned.IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR Building PrincipalSpecial Services DirectorCertificate NurseTERMS OF EMPLOYMENTAll substitute positions are on an on-call as-needed basis.Salary The substitute rate will be Step 1 for the position on the negotiated PSE salary schedule.Verification of identity and United States work authorizationmust becompleted before employment commences. The successful candidate for thispositionmust complete a fingerprinted background check with the Washington State Patrol and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
