Substitute Nurse

Reports to: School Principal and Special Services Director

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or equivalent • Appropriate Wyoming PTSB Certification and Wyoming licensure

POSITION SUMMARY

To replace the regular nurse in their absence. To provide quality school nurse services to meet specific requirements in state statutes, state rules and regulations, and District policy related to the overall health care of students in the school system.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Assess health status and needs of students and facilitate the educational process by modifying or removing health-related barriers to learning.

• Assist in health budget planning and maintain necessary first aid supplies and health-related materials and equipment in assigned schools. • Render emergency first aid and/or emergency care as necessary to students and staff members in compliance with established standards and complete accident and service reports and logs. • Provide information to staff members and students who have special health needs. • Maintain current health records on all students and provide medical alert information to staff as appropriate and obtain necessary medical records advice and treatments in order to ensure the health and safety of students. • Dispense medications as necessary during the school day in compliance with established procedures and practices. • Provide in-service as requested by supervisor to staff members in giving emergency care, CPR, First Aid, and Bloodborne Pathogens. • Assess and follow up on students and staff compliance with state immunization regulations. Reports communicable diseases according to state regulations. • Serve as a resource person in the education planning for students with specific health deficits in the District. • When assigned by a Special Education Case Manager, design appropriate goals, objectives, and timelines for appropriate school-related special education health services for eligible students. • Provide quality educational-based special education health services based on goals related to deficit areas. • Monitor and document student progress and communicate progress with appropriate students, staff, parents, and other members of the school-based teams. • Develop care plans for and serve as a resource person in the educational planning for medically fragile students as requested. • Act as a liaison between home school and community resources and makes referrals to appropriate community agencies. • Provide health counseling to students and staff regarding chronic illness, nutrition programs, and positive lifestyles as appropriate. • Perform various types of health screening assessment activities and cooperate with other district screenings, make recommendations, and do follow-up based on the results of these screenings. • Follow time schedules, attend and participate in all assigned meetings, and maintain a positive professional manner with students, parents, and staff. • Interact positively and appropriately with students and staff. • Maintain confidentiality standards as defined by local, state, and federal rules and regulations. • Other duties as assigned.

EVALUATION

Performance on this job will be evaluated by the School Principal in consultation with the Special Services Director in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of certified or classified personnel.

SALARY SCHEDULE

This position will be paid according to the approved Substitute & Temporary Salary Schedule.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Temporary as needed.
