Position Overview

Join us in the summer of 2026 and help us continue the legacy of fostering creativity, nurturing talent, and celebrating the individual artistic journey at Interlochen. We seek eager-to-learn and detail-orientedSubstitute Music Librarian who embody our core values and are committed to nurturing young artists.The Fennell Music Library serves the music programs of Interlochen Arts Camp and Interlochen Arts Academy, and houses extensive collections including orchestral, band, choral, and chamber music, jazz, scores, and sound recordings. This position ensures that students, faculty, and staff can access music materials in a timely and efficient manner while supervising four full-time Music Reference Interns. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required.This position works closely with the Director of Libraries, Ensemble Librarians, Music Library Interns, and other library staff members to provide exemplary services to the ICA community.

  • Oversee training and daily work of Music Reference Interns
  • Coordinate binding and processing of library materials
  • Manage billing
  • Provide a high level of reference to students, faculty, and staff
  • Circulate scores, sound recordings, and other Music Library items
  • Assist patrons with technology issues
  • Assist with preparation of ensemble materials as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Prepared to live in a residence hall with a roommate.While we offer accessible housing accommodations, please note that due to the rustic nature of our camp, these options are limited.
  • ALA-accredited MLIS or current enrollment in an accredited MLIS program required
  • Bachelors degree in music required; masters degree in music preferred
  • Two to three years of relevant music library experience
  • High comfort level with public services
  • Experience binding music materials a plus
  • Knowledge of ensemble librarianship preferred
