Job Title: Substation Superintendent

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Substation Superintendent / Construction Manager to lead the field execution of high-voltage greenfield substation projects ranging from 161kV through 345kV. This individual will be responsible for overseeing all on-site construction activities, ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with utility specifications, NESC requirements, and company quality standards. This position plays a critical role in ensuring project success through safety leadership, field execution excellence, workforce development, and client satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the field execution of high-voltage greenfield substation projects.
  • Oversee all on-site construction activities to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with utility specifications, NESC requirements, and company quality standards.
  • Manage large-scale utility, transmission, and substation construction projects.
  • Lead self-perform craft labor, subcontractors, and field supervisors.
  • Maintain strong relationships with utility clients, engineers, and project stakeholders.
  • Provide safety leadership and ensure adherence to OSHA regulations and electrical safety standards.
  • Interpret one-line diagrams, protection and control drawings, civil site drawings, structural drawings, and electrical installation documents.
  • Manage multiple subcontractors and self-perform crews.

Essential Skills

  • High voltage and substation construction expertise.
  • Extensive experience in construction management.
  • Subcontractor management skills.
  • Strong knowledge of transmission and distribution systems, substation construction methodologies, and utility construction practices.
  • Proficiency in interpreting technical drawings and documentation.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Associate"s Degree, technical training, or construction management education preferred.
  • 8+ years of electrical utility or substation construction experience.
  • 5+ years in a supervisory role managing high-voltage substation construction projects.
  • Proven experience leading greenfield substation projects in the 161kV-345kV range.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, project scheduling tools, and digital field documentation platforms.

Work Environment

The position is onsite at a greenfield site, specifically a data center. The role involves working in an environment where high-voltage equipment and construction activities are prominent, requiring adherence to safety standards and regulations.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Kansas City, MO.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $70.00/hr.
