Description

Substation Project Structural EngineerHDR Engineering seeks a Substation Project Structural Engineer for our Power Delivery team.ResponsibilitiesExecute structural engineering tasks for substation structural members, including rolled steel shapes, lattice steel framing, and folded plate tubular steel shapes; detailed design, calculations, and detailing for fabrication or development of loading and concept drawings for submittal to a steel fabricator.Execute foundation design tasks for substation structures, including drilled piers, spread footings, driven piles, and other types, using industry-standard software.Prepare and review specifications for construction and materials.Assign project tasks to EITs and provide technical guidance to non-structural project team members.Coordinate and perform quality checks and reviews for project deliverables per HDR QMS requirements.Collaborate with other engineers to develop and maintain standards.Work independently and mentor and train EITs and designers.Execute multiple projects concurrently across different locations.Participate in project reviews as needed; some travel may be required.Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.Professional engineering license recognized in the region of employment (e.g., PE or P.Eng).Professional experience as a structural engineer.Proficiency with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, RISA, STAAD, SAP, Tedds, RAM, ETABS, SAFE or similar.Previous work with an architectural, engineering, or consulting firm.Commitment to an employee‑owned culture; active participation required.Preferred QualificationsMinimum five years of technical design experience with high‑voltage electrical switchyard and substation projects, including foundation and steel structural design.Experience with NESC, NEC, IEEE, ANSI, ASCE‑113 and other industry standards.Experience using design software such as PLS‑Tower, Mathcad Prime, MicroStation, STAAD, RISA, MFAD, L‑Pile or equivalent.Working knowledge of AISC‑360, ASCE‑7, ACI‑318 and other standards.Strong written and verbal communication, conceptual, organizational, problem‑solving, collaboration skills; ability to work independently and as part of a team.BenefitsProvides a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, short and long‑term disability, life insurance, employee assistance program, paid time off, parental leave, paid holidays, retirement savings plan with employer match, employee referral bonus, and tuition reimbursement.LocationPrimary: Charlotte, North Carolina.
