Substation Project EngineerThe Substation Practice is seeking a Project Engineer. This role supports the delivery of substation design work for utility‑scale wind, solar, and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects across the United States. On a day‑to‑day basis, this person will contribute to design efforts, produce technical deliverables, and support project teams in executing active substation work.As part of a collaborative team, you will work closely with senior engineers to develop your technical depth, contribute to project delivery, and build experience across a range of substation projects and clients.This role is hybrid‑ or remote‑friendly, with a preference for an individual who is based near one of our offices located in Portland, OR; Corvallis, OR; Bend, OR; Bellingham, WA; Seattle, WA; Tacoma, WA; Spokane, WA; Boise, ID; Denver, CO; or Remote.What You'll DoKey ResponsibilitiesCreate and oversee substation design deliverables from preliminary through IFC plan sets; deliverables may include but not limited to: one‑line diagrams, schematics, wiring, general arrangements, conduit, grounding, equipment connection details, design criteria, equipment specifications, and construction specificationsPerform engineering calculations such as bus sizing, AC/DC station service sizing, cable sizing, grounding, and equipment selectionCoordinate with project manager and multidisciplinary project teams to support project executionAssist with preparation of technical studies (short circuit, grounding, arc flash, etc.)Perform QA/QC reviews of junior engineers' work and incorporate feedback from senior engineers and SMEsProvide support during construction phases, including RFI responses and submittal reviewProvide technical guidance and mentorship to entry‑level engineers as they develop substation design skills and project delivery experienceWhat You BringRequired QualificationsBachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering4‑8 years' experience specifically in substation protection & control, or physical design experienceProfessional Engineer (PE) licenseExperience coordinating with multidisciplinary teamsPreferred QualificationsExperience in utility‑scale renewable energy projects (wind, solar, BESS)Consulting experience preferredFamiliarity with substation design tools (e.g., EasyPower, ETAP)What We OfferWe foster an environment where talented professionals have the freedom and support to do their most meaningful work.
