Job Title: Substation Physical Designer 3 (SPD3)
Location: Forest Park, GA 30297 (Hybrid - 4 days onsite, 1 day remote)
Duration: 3 Years (07/27/2026 –07/27/2029)
Pay Rate: $40.50/hour on W2
Shift Timings: 1st shift


Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced Substation Physical Designer 3 to support transmission and distribution substation engineering projects. The role involves preparing detailed physical design drawings, construction packages, material specifications, and coordinating with engineering, construction, and project management teams. Candidates should have experience in utility substation design using AutoCAD and be comfortable performing site visits and supporting construction activities.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Design transmission and distribution substations.
  • Prepare physical design drawings including:
  • Substation layouts
  • Foundation layouts
  • Grounding layouts
  • Conduit layouts
  • Control building layouts
  • Sections/Elevations
  • Electrical bus design
  • Create design packages using AutoCAD 2D.
  • Develop drawings from single-line diagrams.
  • Support construction, project management, and maintenance teams.
  • Conduct pre-construction, construction, and post-construction site visits.
  • Coordinate with vendors and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Prepare material specifications and review vendor drawings.
  • Maintain engineering documentation using company systems.
     
Required Skills:
  • AutoCAD 2D proficiency (Required)
  • Experience with transmission and/or distribution substations
  • Physical substation design experience
  • Ability to create drawings from single-line diagrams
  • Microsoft Office proficiency
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
     
Preferred Skills:
  • Utility industry experience
  • Knowledge of NESC, NEC, and OSHA standards
  • Understanding of electrical power systems and utility grid operations
  • Experience with:
  • TEAMS
  • STOMP
  • MAXIMO
  • SCST Vault
  • Cost estimating and project development experience

Education Required:
One of the following:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology
  • Bachelor's degree (any discipline) with 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Associate degree with 5+ years of relevant experience
  • No degree with 8+ years of relevant experience
