Position Scope

Responsible for performing high-quality welding and assembly of buswork in electrical substations. This includes working with aluminum conductors, pipe and tubing, ensuring structural integrity and electrical continuity in high-voltage and medium voltage environments. Work is performed according to engineering drawings, project specifications, and safety standards.

Location & Travel: This role offers nationwide opportunities based on project needs. In addition to your hourly pay, you’ll receive a daily per diem to assist with living expenses while on assignment.

Company Overview

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Promote and comply with all Company and safety policies and procedures
  • Complete all required Safety documentation
  • Weld aluminum buswork using GTAW (TIG) and other appropriate welding methods.
  • Interpret and follow engineering blueprints, schematics, and substation layout drawings.
  • Fabricate and install substation bus systems, brackets, and support structures.
  • Ensure welds meet mechanical and electrical standards, including visual and X-ray inspection requirements if applicable.
  • Operate and maintain welding and cutting tools safely and efficiently.
  • Must have the ability to communicate clearly, listen and understand information through spoken words and sentences to ensure full comprehension of job duties, safety regulations, and other situations that may require an immediate response
  • Coordinate with electricians, linemen, and other team members to complete projects.
  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with OSHA, NESC, and company safety policies.
  • Participate in job hazard analysis (JHA) and follow all lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures.
  • Travel to job sites and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • May be required to travel to different jobsites on limited notice
  • Position involves performing other duties as required including but not limited to grounding and conduit installation, steel erection, cable pulling, etc.; as well as other duties as assigned by Superintendent or Foreman

Education and Work Experience

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Certified welder (AWS D1.2 or equivalent preferred).
  • 3+ years of welding experience, preferably in utility or high-voltage construction.
  • Proficient in TIG/MIG welding aluminum.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and construction documents.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Take reasonable care of your own and others’ health and safety and of those who may be affected by the day-to-day delivery of this role by taking personal responsibility for working toward Safety principles
  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Add and subtract two-digit numbers and multiply and divide with 10's and 100's; ability to perform these operations using units, weight measurement and volume
  • Ability to understand units of force, pressure and torque and apply appropriate tooling adjustments for each

Working Environment:

  • Regularly exposed to outside weather conditions
  • Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; and extreme heat
  • Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually loud
