Job Description
Summary of Responsibilities
Conducts individual, couple, and group counseling for individuals with mental illness, alcoholism, or drug abuse problems. Performs intake assessments and makes referrals as necessary. Participates in staff meetings, completes treatment summaries, and maintains progress notes.
Examples of Job Requirements
- Knowledgeable of treatment techniques necessary to provide mental illness or substance abuse counseling.
- Ability to conduct individual, couple, and group counseling under clinical supervision.
- Conduct initial service intake assessments and make recommendations for treatment.
- Attend and participate in regular group and individual supervision.
- Maintain current and accurate documentation of all services provided.
- A nurse in either mental illness or substance abuse programs would be classified in this position and expected to perform skills related to that professional area.
- Participate in professional growth and development opportunities as desired.
- Provide basic living skills training.
- Provide family support services.
Supervisor
The supervisor of this position will be either a Program Coordinator or Program Director. A senior-level therapist may provide clinical supervision.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a mental health-related field or nursing, with relevant experience.
- Medical certification in substance abuse requires two years of experience or professional certification.
