Position: Department Supervisor: English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)

Certification: Intermediate Administrative Certificate (092)

Work Year: 200 days (195 fixed days & 5 days to be scheduled by mutual agreement)

Start Date: August 17, 2026

Salary: Per WHAA bargaining agreement

Deadline: 06/11/2026

Position Summary:

The ESOL Department Supervisor is responsible for leading and supporting curriculum, instruction, supervision, evaluation, and professional development within the ESOL Department for grades K-12. The department supervisor will provide leadership for ensuring that WHPS students receive appropriate ESOL services. The ESOL Department Supervisor oversees Title III, Bilingual, and Immigrant grants.

The ESOL Department Supervisor is an essential member of the Extended Leadership team as well as the various building leadership team(s).

Qualifications:

  • Connecticut certification as an Intermediate Administrator and Supervisor (092) and TESOL (111) or Bilingual (009)
  • Minimum of five years as an ESOL Teacher
  • Demonstrated success as an effective leader. Must possess skills and ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders and supervise a range of programs and personnel.
  • Strong organization, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills

Key Areas of Responsibilities include:

  • Provides leadership in the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of the districts ESOL programs.
  • Supervises and evaluates ESOL staff for grades K - 12
  • Regularly provides clear, timely, and actionable feedback based on evidence to strengthen professional practice.
  • Tracks student progress, academic achievement and growth to development comprehensive department development plan
  • Develops, evaluates and oversees the implementation of the ESOL curriculum
  • Plans and implements appropriate professional learning opportunities for ESOL staff members
  • Supervises the vertical and horizontal articulation and implementation of ESOL programming to ensure reasonable uniformity of district policies and procedures
  • Works cooperatively with supervisors, principals, and directors to organize articulation to improve educational opportunities and support services for all students.
  • Provides coordination and oversight of hiring ESOL staff
  • Maintains all student/program documentation for CSDE mandates
  • Coordinates annual testing, including intakes, LAS, CAELLP and MAC
  • Coordinates bilingual program at identified schools
  • Develops and coordinates orientation/registration program and supports for new students and families
  • Attends building-based meetings and supports buildings as needed
  • Oversees and coordinates ESOL summer programming
  • Promotes and provides opportunities for families and community members to be actively engaged within the school community.
  • Initiates, facilitates, and maintains liaison with community agencies and other resources to meet students needs.
  • Fosters educational equity through integrated cultural competence and professional learning.
  • Additional duties as assigned by supervisor
