Job Description
The Broadcast Director oversees the production and development of The Nevada Sagebrush's weekly 15-30 minute broadcast program while helping lead the organization's multimedia and television journalism efforts. This position is responsible for maintaining strong editorial and production standards across all broadcast content and helping reporters develop multimedia storytelling skills. The Broadcast Director will assist in preparing scripts, guiding reporters through the creation of television packages and ensuring high-quality audio, lighting and video editing throughout each production cycle. The position also includes leading workshops and training sessions focused on multimedia production, on-camera reporting and television journalism fundamentals. The Broadcast Director is expected to help create and implement strategic plans for newsroom and broadcast operations while supporting measurable audience growth across digital and multimedia platforms.
Candidates should be able to analyze and respond to trends impacting the Reno and University communities and help shape coverage that is timely, relevant and engaging. Responsibilities also include collaborating closely with newsroom leadership and section editors to maintain production schedules, strengthen workflow and achieve organizational goals. The Broadcast Director should be comfortable adapting newsroom resources to emerging technology and maintaining proficiency in digital publishing and multimedia platforms. Applicants should possess strong leadership, communication and organizational skills, along with experience in video production, editing and multimedia journalism. Knowledge of media law, ethical journalism standards and First Amendment protections is expected.
Applicants should also have a basic understanding of media ethics and media law, especially as they pertain to reporting on a college campus.
