About the Job

The Student Worker Administrator supports the College of Liberal Arts (CLA) in creating high-quality, meaningful student employment experiences that advance student learning, skill development, and career readiness. This role serves as a resource for supervisors, departments, and student employees, ensuring compliance with University policies, fostering consistent employment practices, and strengthening the overall student employment ecosystem within CLA. This role offers a hybrid work arrangement, but it is not fully remote.

Please note, this position is not eligible for H-1B or Green Card sponsorship. This position does not offer a STEM OPT training program.

Key Responsibilities:

Operational Workflow & Systems Management (80%)

  • Project Coordination: Coordinate college-wide student employment processes, including job postings, search process, TDX hiring tickets, and onboarding, TDX term tickets.
  • Administrative Consultation: Serve as the primary point of contact for administrative departments regarding the navigation of University employment systems, fiscal codes (chartstrings), and hiring procedures.
  • Process Documentation: Design, maintain, and audit a comprehensive library of operational resources, standardized templates, and procedural guides to ensure college-wide consistency for student supervisors and student employees.
  • Data Integrity: Oversee the accurate maintenance of student position numbers, student job codes, and chart field strings, ensuring all administrative records align with college and university requirements for student employment.

Departmental & Operational Support (10%)

  • In partnership with CLA HR, develop trainings for student supervisors on best practices for supervising students and graduate students.
  • Resource Optimization: Consult with departments on student staffing needs and to ensure student workers are integrated into the department workflow for optimal student worker experience.
  • Logistical Liaison: Address questions or concerns from student employees related to roles, expectations, workplace experiences, pay issues, and/or referring to appropriate units as needed.
  • Collaborating with departments helps with onboarding student workers.

Data, Assessment & Process Optimization (5%)

  • Operational Auditing: Track and analyze student staffing trends and usage data to identify opportunities for administrative efficiency with student hiring support within CLASS.
  • Strategic Recommendation: Gather feedback from supervisors and student workers to identify areas for improvement.
  • Continuous Improvement: Provide data-informed recommendations to CLASS and Admin administrators on student employment needs, funding considerations, and process refinements.

Collaboration & Partnership (5%)

  • Cross- Functional Support:
  • Collaborate with key campus partners, including CLA Human Resources, One Stop Student Services, Payroll, Office of Student Finance, and the CLA Career Services team.
  • Represent CLA in University-wide committees or working groups related to student employment, career readiness, or student success.
  • Coordinate Years of Service program for CLASS.
  • Serve as backup to Hiring Manager and Director of Administrative Operations.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree or a combination of related education and work experience to equal four years
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and a high level of attentiveness to detail and accuracy
  • Demonstrated computer skills and experience in word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software, email and calendaring applications
  • Demonstrated experience working independently and handling multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Demonstrated evidence of strong problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in an academic setting with several constituencies (e.g., faculty, staff and students, external contacts)
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively with individuals from diverse identities, cultures and communities
  • Demonstrated highly refined ability to use discretion regarding confidential information
  • Experience with student services, office management, or program administration in a higher education setting
  • Familiarity with PeopleSoft or similar software. UMN programs are a plus
  • Excellent organization, interpersonal, and communication skills

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $23.00 - $25.50; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 100% Appointment
