Job Description Summary

The student technician provides hands-on assistance in assisting researchers on multidisciplinary projects located at Texas A&M Institute for Preclinical Studies.

Essential Duties/Tasks

  • Performs daily animal care and husbandry duties for research animals including feeding, watering, animal handling/transport, animal health checks, providing enrichment and environmental monitoring.

  • Assures animals are appropriately maintained and cared for in accordance with standard operating procedures and supervisor’s instructions. Requires the ability to work sometimes under challenging conditions (high humidity/temperature).

  • Assists with animal surgery and tissue collection days with minor tasks.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • Current undergraduate or graduate student at Texas A&M University. 

  • Major in Biology, Animal Science, Nutrition, Biomedical Sciences, Agriculture, or a related field preferred. 

  • Previous animal experience is a plus but not required — training will be provided. 

Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to follow instructions, work with minimal instruction, and manage time effectively. 

  • Must be detail-oriented, dependable, and willing to perform both technical and routine tasks. 

  • Stand for extended periods during work. 

 

Other Requirements:

  • Requires working evening, night and weekend hours.

  • Ability to lift or move light, moderate, and heavy objects.
