Student Teacher Resident

Job Title: Student Teacher Resident Reports To: Campus Principal and University Student Teacher Supervisor Classification: Opportunity Culture: Professional Wage/Hour Status: Exempt Days: Based on university student teacher program & SBISD teacher calendar (semester, year - long placement) Salary: See Compensation Plan - Supplemental and Temporary Pay Contract: None Date Revised: 11/15/2023

Primary Purpose

Participate in a semester-long or year-long student teacher resident experience under the guidance of a highly effective mentor teacher observing and learning in an on the job environment.

Qualifications/Skills

Education/Certification:

  • Enrolled in one of the following universities: UH-Main, UH-TeachHouston, UH-Downtown, or Stephen F. Austin State University and Texas A&M University and working towards a teaching certification.
  • Accepted into the University Student Teacher Resident Program.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Broad knowledge of MS Word and broad knowledge of MS Excel.
  • Computer literate. Ability to operate various office equipment (copier/fax machine).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with people effectively.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Ability to lift and transport textbooks/materials to designated areas.

Other

  • Must be a current University student enrolled in one of the universities listed above; working towards teaching certification and in good standing with the university.
  • Meet the items identified in their University College of Education Resident Job Description.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support: Responsibilities and duties are identified in the University, College of Education Resident Job Description.
  • Other: Perform other related duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • None

Equipment Used

  • Computer and various office equipment.

Working Conditions

  • Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress. Work with frequent interruptions. This position requires regular in-person interaction with the public.
  • Physical Demands: Repetitive hand motions. Prolonged use of the computer. Frequent sitting, stooping, bending, pushing and pulling. Moving small stacks of textbooks, boxes, equipment and other campus equipment.
