Position Summary

This Is a Grant Funded At-Will Position For Which The Attainment of Non-Probationary Status (Tenure) is not available. Continued Employment Contingent Upon Funding.

The Student Support Services (SSS) Tutorial Coordinator's role is to coordinate and implement all instructional components of the SSS federal grant program under the direction of the TRIO Student Support Services program director and assistant director. This position is responsible for assisting with the management, implementation, and evaluation of the SSS project, focusing on increasing retention and graduation rates. The SSS Tutorial Coordinator is responsible for hiring, training, and supervising part-time tutors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage all tutoring/supplemental instruction activities for SSS participants.

  • Identify, recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate peer and professional tutors.

  • Maintain rosters, reports, and other documentation related to the tutorial program, assigned workshops, and supplemental instruction activities.

  • Coordinate with the Human Resources and Payroll Department and SSS Office Manager to ensure proper onboarding and payment for tutors.

  • Coordinate with tutors on a regular basis concerning student progress.

  • Supervise scheduling of tutorial sessions, review academic progress, and provide academic advisement.

  • Assist with identification, assessment, and selection of eligible project participants and maintain tutorial files.

  • Responsible for the accumulation of data and reports for the evaluation of tutoring and GPA of participants.

  • Coordinate the mentoring/coaching program.

  • Advise SSS students pursuing a technical degree and develop and plan for graduation.

  • Maintain the security and accuracy of student and project data.

  • Compile reports and provide information as requested by the Project Director.

  • Develop and maintain an effective rapport with students, other employees, and the public.

  • Serve on college committees and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree fromanapprovedU.S.DepartmentofEducation-accreditedinstitutionrequired.
  • Minimum two (2) years' experience in teaching/tutoring students is preferred.

  • Excellent interpersonal communication and organization skills
  • Knowledge of academic study skills, personal needs assessment, and student support strategies.

  • Ability to travel to other campus locations when necessary.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Knowledge of budget and hiring procedures, forms, and the ability to organize payroll documentation and employee files.
  • Ability to organize and lead tutorial training.

SALARY: This position is on Gadsden State's local Salary Schedule C3, 08 ($37,700 - $53,800). The maximum salary shall be limited to the maximum allowed under the grant for this position which is $53,800 FY26. Salary will be based on VERIFIED education and years of VERIFIED FULL-TIME related experience that is stated on the initial job application only. All full-time directly related experience must be on the application/resume for consideration.

Salary Calculation: For all positions on all Salary Schedules, the salary amount for the selected applicant is determined by step placement on the applicable schedule. Step placement is dependent upon the following: (a) all full-time work experience in public education in Alabama and (b) all other full-time work experience outside of public education in Alabama that, in the sole judgment of the College, directly relates to the requirements of the position. The applicant selected for the position must provide written verification(s) of this full-time work experience within the time provided herein if such experience is to be considered in determining their initial step place on the Salary Schedule.

Sick Leave

All regular full-time non-instructional staff earns one day of sick leave which is the equivalent of 8 hours of sick leave per month. Unused sick leave is rolled over to the following year. Upon retirement, employees are allowed to convert unused sick time into service time for the purpose of retirement. Retirement

The TRS was established in 1939 to provide benefits to qualified persons employed by state-supported educational institutions. Responsibility for the management and administration of the TRS is vested in its Board of Control. The Boards of Control elect the Secretary-Treasurer who serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the RSA and is responsible for the day-to-day management of the RSA. Tuition Assistance

This tuition waiver program is designed for all full-time instructional and non-instructional employees of The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education and their dependents as defined under by policy. The program will be coordinated by each institution for employees within The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education. An application form for the tuition assistance program is available in the Human Resources office and should be completed prior to registration for classes.

Employees/Dependents at two-year colleges:

  • 1/3 waived after 1st year
