The Student Support & Assessment Coordinator serves as the campus-level subject matter expert and operational lead for special populations services, state and federal assessment compliance, and instructional support systems. This role is responsible for coordinating the identification, placement, and continuous progress monitoring of students receiving services under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), and the Texas Dyslexia Handbook. The Coordinator also serves as the Campus Testing Coordinator (CTC), overseeing the administration of all state-mandated and federally required assessments in compliance with TEA and IDEA regulations, and provides targeted instructional support to teachers and campus staff to ensure fidelity of implementation of individualized student plans.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Special Populations - Section 504, Dyslexia & Special Education
- Assist with coordinating campus-level identification, referral, evaluation, and ARD/IEP processes in compliance with IDEA, 34 CFR Part 300, and TEA Special Education rules.
- Serve as or assist the campus 504 Coordinator, ensuring timely development, implementation, and annual review of Section 504 Accommodation Plans in accordance with 29 U.S.C. § 794 and OCR guidance.
- Provide support with dyslexia identification and services in alignment with the Texas Dyslexia Handbook, Texas Education Code § 38.003, and applicable dyslexia screening timelines. Help maintain accurate, compliant, and audit-ready documentation for all special populations students, including IEPs, BIPs, 504 Plans, evaluation reports, and dyslexia service records.
- Support the facilitation of Special Populations committee meetings, including preparation of required documents and parent communication.
Campus Testing Coordinator (CTC) - State & Federal Assessment
- Serve as the designated Campus Testing Coordinator (CTC) in compliance with TEA's Student Assessment Division requirements and the applicable Test Security Supplement.
- Coordinate administration of all TEA-mandated assessments, including STAAR, STAAR Alternate 2, TELPAS, and any federally required alternate assessments for students with disabilities.
- Ensure campus implementation of testing accommodations for eligible students under IEPs, 504 Plans, and ELL accommodation frameworks, as outlined in the TEA Accommodations Resource Document.
- Manage test materials ordering, security, distribution, and return in strict accordance with the TEA Test Security Standards and applicable Educator Guide to STAAR.
- Train campus staff on test administration procedures, prohibited materials, allowable assistance, and security protocols consistent with TEA requirements and network policy.
- Coordinate with the network's assessment team to resolve testing irregularities, administer make-up testing windows, and submit required documentation to TEA.
- Maintain accurate testing rosters and testing group assignments in the Student Assessment portal, and ensure PEIMS coding aligns with assessment participation.
- Monitor and communicate campus-level assessment calendars, testing windows, and reporting timelines to administrators, teachers, and families.
Instructional Support
- Provide campus-based instructional coaching and support to general education and special education teachers in the implementation of IEP accommodations, modifications, and intervention strategies.
- Collaborate with instructional staff and campus leadership to ensure alignment between student IEPs/504 Plans and classroom instruction, materials, and assessments.
- Support the implementation of Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions within the campus MTSS framework, including progress monitoring, data collection, and documentation of intervention fidelity.
- Assist teachers in developing and implementing research-based instructional strategies for students with learning differences, including dyslexia, executive functioning deficits, and other exceptionalities.
Family Engagement & Customer Service
- Assist with communicating assessment schedules, student participation requirements, and results to families in accessible, family-friendly formats.
- Support parent understanding of special population and instructional services and supports.
Collaboration & Professional Growth
- Work closely with the campus leadership to ensure operational and instructional alignment.
- Participate in network-level CTC training, compliance reviews, and MTSS data team meetings.
- Maintain current knowledge of evolving TEA guidance, IDEA regulations, Section 504 OCR guidance, and dyslexia legislation.
- Demonstrate readiness to assume increasing leadership responsibilities within special populations and campus operations.
Other Duties
- Support end-of-year testing logistics, transition planning for special populations students, and network compliance audits.
- Support network initiatives, major events, and special projects as assigned.
- Some travel may be required to attend school, district, and community functions.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Demonstrated knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, and Texas Dyslexia Handbook requirements. Experience working with students with disabilities or other special populations
- Knowledge of TEA assessment systems, STAAR administration, and CTC responsibilities.
Preferred
- Bachelor degree in Education, Special Education, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
- Valid Texas educator certification, or eligibility for certification, in Special Education or a related area.
- Experience as a Campus Testing Coordinator or Special Education Coordinator in a Texas public school or charter network.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) communication skills.
- Familiarity with PEIMS data entry, IEP systems, or comparable special population management platforms.
- Experience in a high-growth charter school environment with demonstrated results for students with exceptionalities.
OTHER
- Perform other duties as assigned by campus and network leadership.
- This position may require occasional evening or weekend availability for family meetings, ARD committee meetings, or testing coordination.
