Summary: The Student Success Coordinator provides layered social, emotional, and behavioral support for students through proactive, research-based interventions and collaborative partnerships with staff. This role bridges general education instruction, social-emotional wellness, and school safety to support student engagement, personal growth, and academic success.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The successful candidate has practical experience in behavioral intervention and collaborative skills to work effectively with staff, students, and families. They demonstrate flexibility and problem-solving abilities while maintaining confidentiality and working within sensitive protocols. The ideal candidate understands social-emotional learning frameworks and utilizes information to refine interventions for ongoing improvement.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Student Support and Intervention

  • Coordinate and monitor 504 plans to ensure that students receive the necessary accommodations.
  • Support individual students through check-ins, small groups, and SEL skill-building (self-regulation, conflict resolution, communication).
  • Provide real-time assistance with behavioral challenges, utilizing de-escalation and restorative strategies with staff.
  • Help teachers develop proactive classroom strategies that foster positive behavior and promote strong communities.
  • Identify students at risk early and take part in safety and behavior planning through BTAM and student support teams.
  • Use behavior, attendance, and SEL data to adjust support and improve student outcomes.

Collaboration and Systems

  • Collaborate with MTSS teams to inform data-driven decisions across all levels of intervention.
  • Collaborate with staff to integrate SEL and behavior strategies into instruction and daily school life.
  • Connect students and families to outside services and support trauma-informed practices throughout the school.
  • Maintain strong communication, support SEL programming, and ensure compliance with student support requirements.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Attend leadership meetings, professional development, and district training as required
  • Align student support programming with district strategic priorities and equity initiatives
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field (required); Master's degree preferred
  • Valid K12 Michigan teaching certification (required)
  • Experience in social-emotional learning, behavior support, threat assessment, or similar roles is strongly preferred

Reports to: Elementary Principal at assigned school

Terms of Employment: Full-Time, Exempt, HEA Contracted Position
