The Neenah Joint School District is accepting applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE) Social, Emotional, and Behavioral Support Specialist at Horace Mann Elementary School. This position has a start date of August 25, 2026 for the 2026-2027 school year.

Licensure that is required can be in the following: School Social Worker, School Counselor, School Psychologist and or Teacher.

Major Areas of Accountability:

The Student Support Specialist works under the direction of the principal in collaboration with the student services team to support individual student behaviors as well as implement and execute system-wide behavioral frameworks. Specifically, the Student Support Specialist will:

  • Implement and execute a system-wide behavioral framework.
  • Support and professionally develop staff members in social, emotional, and behavioral best practices
  • Work with students to address behaviors that impede academic, social, emotional, and behavioral growth. This includes addressing barriers to school attendance and behavioral misconduct.
  • Gather, evaluate, and communicate data that supports staff members in fostering social, emotional, and behavioral growth in students.
  • Engage community agencies and partners who will contribute to the social, emotional, and behavioral growth of students.
  • Engage in measurement and respond to data related to the mental health of students and work collaboratively with the student services team to address barriers to learning created by student mental health concerns.

Additional Areas of Responsibility:

  • Monitor attendance and manage the student truancy process
  • Maintain disciplinary records of students
  • Communicate with families resulting from disciplinary actions taken
  • Work with the School Resource Officer to support investigations related to statutory and ordinance violations
  • Serve as the LEA representative at IEP team meetings
  • Attend regular meetings of the school and District Administrative Teams
  • Supervise select evening and weekend school events

  • Acts as a representative of the District at school-related functions.
  • Keeps parents, staff, and other District administration informed, as needed.
  • Keeps abreast of current educational trends/issues through professional development experiences.

Cognitive Requirements:

  • The position requires significant cognitive effort to plan and carry out duties.
  • Possesses strong computer/technology skills to assist staff and students.
  • Decisions and actions frequently must occur with minimal time for reflection.
  • Situations faced often involve complex interpersonal communications.
  • Solutions require integration of information and considerable independent judgment.
  • How a decision is communicated is often as important as the actual message.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited program.
  • License: Teacher, school social worker, school psychologist, or school counselor licensure is required. Administrator license is preferred but not required.
  • Background as a school social worker, school psychologist, school counselor, special education teacher, or teacher are required.
