Description

This position involves executing diverse chemical reactions following established protocols and experimental designs.

Examples of Duties

  • Experimental Synthesis: Execute diverse chemical reactions following established protocols and experimental designs
  • Product Purification: Perform standard purification techniques (e.g., recrystallization, distillation, or chromatography) to ensure high-quality yields
  • Analytical Testing: Analyze reaction outcomes and product purity using various laboratory instruments (e.g., NMR, IR)
  • Documentation & Logging: Maintain a meticulous and real-time electronic or physical laboratory notebook, documenting all observations, data, and deviations
  • Safety & Compliance: Strictly adhere to all safety protocols, including the correct use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and proper handling/disposal of hazardous materials
  • Laboratory Stewardship: Ensure the laboratory remains a clean and productive environment; this includes cleaning reaction vessels, specialized glassware, and maintaining communal workstations
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Need to have satisfactorily completed Organic Chemistry I lecture and laboratory courses
