Provide direct care to residents as needed in accordance with care plan, policies and procedures, and nursing standards of care.
1. Perform limited medication administration tasks as delegated by a licensed nurse.
2. Perform medication administration of oral, topical, eye, ear, nose, inhalant, rectal and vaginal medications.
3. Administer and document medication administration per physician's orders.
4. Compare the resident’s physician order and the MAR and report any discrepancies to the nurse prior to administration of the medication.
5. Verify the order matches the MAR/EMAR and the medication pack.
6. Document the administration of the medication appropriately on the MAR/EMAR.
7. Verify the resident’s name, the medication name, dosage, route of administration and time of administration prior to administering the medication.
8. Report discrepancies and/or errors to the nurse.
9. Communicate observations and/or changes in resident status to a nurse.
10. Report residents’ condition and shift occurrences to oncoming staff.
11. Assist the nurse in providing care to residents as needed.
12. Maintain colostomies to include changing the device.
13. Seek guidance from the nurse as needed to perform tasks.
Currently enrolled in an approved accredited school of nursing. Have completed and successfully passed course work in pharmacology, medication administration and fundamentals of nursing.
