Position Description

Advertised Job Summary

The Student Experience Coordinator, under general supervision from the Student Experience Director, provides holistic and individualized support to South Carolina Honors College (SCHC) students through structured meetings that complement Honors academic advising. The coordinator manages an assigned caseload of students and functions as a liaison with advisors in academic units. The incumbent possesses a working knowledge of college programs, university policy, and campus resources. Using this knowledge, the coordinator guides students toward a rich collegiate experience that may include research, study abroad, national fellowships, service learning, and/or internships culminating in graduation and post-graduation success, using available technologies to track student support and referrals. Honors College staff members should possess a wide-ranging intellectual curiosity and a commitment to working with high-achieving students.

Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in a job related field and 1 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience.

Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials Preferred Qualifications Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Applicants must have the ability to function in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • The successful candidate will be well organized, have excellent written and oral communication skills, be able to deal diplomatically with various constituent groups and be proficient in Microsoft Office Software (Excel, Word and PowerPoint).
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret information accurately are critical.
  • Some knowledge of USC policies, procedures, and programs is preferred.

Job Duty

Student Support:

Guides students toward a rich collegiate experience beyond courses that includes research, study abroad, service learning, senior thesis/project, national fellowships, and/or internships culminating in graduation and post-graduation success. Manages an assigned caseload, conducts individual and group meetings, and holistically supports students through reflective, developmental conversations. Connects students to appropriate SCHC programs staff and USC offices and makes referrals when needed.

Technology and Tracking:

Uses available technologies to track appointment attendance, maintain session notes, and contribute to assessment and reporting. Participates in on-going training to ensure information accuracy and effective student support techniques.

Resources:

Maintains a working knowledge of Honors courses, requirements, programs, and events to inform student meetings and guide student decision-making. Establishes relationships with SCHC and cross-campus colleagues providing these services and programs. Participates in training and team, college and campus meetings.

Student Experience:

Collaborates with academic advisors, faculty, and campus partners to support student success and belonging. Identifies needs of assigned caseloads and plans group events to provide relevant support and information sharing.
