Salary/PayRange : $49,732 - $56,951 annually. Compensation will be commensurate upon experience and qualifications.This position is Exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) overtime provisions.

Summary

The Student Employment Advisor supports the Student Employment Office within the Office of Financial Aid & Student Employment. The primary responsibility of this position is to support and maintain all functions of the administration and coordination of student employment programs, which includes federal and state work study as well as student hourly under the supervision of the Director- Student Employment. This position maintains a thorough and current working knowledge of all Federal Title IV, State of Colorado, and institutional rules, regulations and procedures to ensure accurate programming so our awards and employment programs maintain compliance with applicable regulations.

HR Professionals are responsible for exercising discretion, analytical skill, personal accountability and responsibility in a wide range of areas including academic, administrative, managerial and student services functions. Work involves creating, integrating, applying and sharing knowledge directly related to a professional field. At the professional level, duties may be more limited in scope, may be performed with guidance and direction from other professionals, or may be performed in a training and development capacity.

This position requires a unique level of knowledge of financial student aid (FSA) rules and regulations, and human resource and employment processes.

Essential Functions

The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

(60%) Operations and customer service

  • Front line customer service and office management

  • Student employee hiring/orientation

  • Assist with and support SEAN job postings, updates, and system maintenance

  • Student/staff payroll/leave reporting, and payroll data entry--checking for accuracy and approving information taken and input into the system by students.

  • HCM/Cherwell data entry, auditing, and approval.

  • Assist with facilitation of events, trainings, processes, etc. and communicate them to campus, students, employers, community etc.

  • Assist with the student employment reconciliation process. Payroll expense transfers and funding.

  • Assist in program maintenance for work study, student hourly, human resources, and operational processes.

  • Special project support

(15%) Communication & Collaboration

  • Advise on resources that are available.

  • Respond and authorize student employees' responses to all email communications

  • Acts as an advocate and liaison between students and UCCS and other outside agencies.

  • Handle customer service related to questions; this includes email and phone.

  • Collaborate with the other staff to ensure a smooth verification process and seek ways to improve the student's experience while still adhering to federal regulations.

  • Program responsibility will include responding to student emails received in the general email account as well as the uploading of documents received.

  • Staff tabling events to engage with students.

  • Facilitate semesterly job fairs.

  • Conduct trainings each semester as part of training suite.

  • Collaborate and confer with other campus offices as needed to support student employees.

(15%) Leadership/Supervision

  • Be a resource for the customer service student assistants and be available for specific student requests to see a counselor in a more private setting.

  • Hire, supervise, train, and collaborate with student employees to support the needs of the department.

  • Assist with/provide supervision and mentorship of 4-6 student employees (2-3 FTE)

(10%) Administrative Tasks

  • Review and update policies and procedures documents as needed

  • Support monthly off-campus billing process

Qualifications

  • Must have a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university

  • Must have experience in student employment, human resources and/or financial aid

  • Customer service experience is preferred

  • Experience working in PeopleSoft HCM, PeopleSoft SIS, GradLeaders, or other similar systems is preferred.
