The Verona Area School District is seeking applicants for the following position.

Student Driver & Special Education Assistant/Paraprofessional (the job description can be found here )

.94 FTE, 37.5 hours per week, schedule to be determined. This is a 10 month position

Transport assigned students within school boundaries in a provided district van.

Drive in a courteous and safe manner and maintain appropriate records.

Assist with student transfers and other situations where passengers are in need of accommodations and assistance.

Maintain a positive working relationship with those who utilize the transportation service.

During non-driving times, will support the district as a Special Education Assistant.

Skills Necessary

Communicate effectively and professionally with students, families, and staff.

Apply rules of confidentiality with all student information and professional matters.

Provide classroom support to teachers and special needs students. Examples of tasks include: working with students in small groups or one-on-one to teach and reinforce academic and life skills; knowing the abilities and disabilities of each student and how their special needs affect them and their learning; using adaptive devices particular to a student's needs; providing consistency and continuity in expectations; and practicing in all subject areas.

Qualifications

Education: minimum of a high school education, additional education/related experience to meet DPI certification requirements is required. First Aid and CPR training preferred. Participate in district-sponsored training required, including NVCI and de-escalation strategies.

Skills: Able to work effectively and positively with a range of students of different ages and abilities. Capable of using smartphone technology, including mapping and tracking apps.

Must have and maintain a valid Wisconsin driver's license. Maximum of one moving violation in the last three years.

Experience: Prior work with children is desired. Prior experience driving children or adults preferred.

Non-violent Crisis Intervention training required upon hire.
