Student Behavior Specialist Social Worker Counselor
Position Purpose
The Student Behavior Specialist Social WorkerCounselor supports student success by leading and coordinating behavior interventions within a Multi-Tiered System of Supports MTSS and Response to Intervention RTI framework. This position focuses on prevention early intervention and targeted supports for students experiencing behavioral social-emotional or school adjustment challenges.
Aligned with the districts Professional Learning Community PLC model this role collaborates with teachers and collaborative teams to ensure every student receives the support needed to succeed behaviorally and academically.
The Student Behavior Specialist serves as a key resource in developing proactive systems that promote positive behavior improve student engagement and support strong learning environments for all students.
Reports directly to the Building Principal.
Works collaboratively with teachers PLC teams administration families and support staff.

Primary Responsibilities
MTSS RTI Behavior Leadership
Support implementation of Tier 1 Tier 2 and Tier 3 behavior interventions aligned with district MTSS systems.
Analyze student behavioral data to identify needs and guide intervention planning.
Participate in problem-solving teams and support behavior intervention planning BIPs.
Monitor student progress and adjust supports using data-informed decision making.
PLC Collaboration
Serve as an active member of Professional Learning Communities focused on student behavior and engagement.
Collaborate with teachers and teams to answer PLC questions related to behaviorWhat do students need to demonstrateHow will we know when behavior expectations are metWhat will we do when students struggleHow will we extend support when students are successful
Assist teams in developing consistent behavior expectations and responses.
Direct Student Support
Provide short-term individual and small-group behavioral or social-emotional supports.
Teach skills such as self-regulation problem-solving conflict resolution and emotional management.
Support students transitioning between interventions or classroom environments.
Staff Support & Coaching
Provide coaching and modeling for classroom management strategies and proactive behavior support.
Collaborate with staff to implement evidence-based practices aligned to MTSS.
Assist in developing classroom and schoolwide behavior systems.
Family and Community Collaboration
Partner with families to support student success through communication problem-solving and access to resources.
Serve as a liaison between school home and outside agencies as appropriate.
School Culture & Prevention
Promote positive school climate initiatives.
Support prevention-focused practices that reduce behavioral disruptions and increase instructional time.
Assist in crisis prevention and de-escalation strategies when needed.
Qualifications
Valid Indiana license as one of the followingSchool CounselorSchool Social WorkerLicensed Clinical Social Worker LCSW
Experience working with elementary-aged students preferred.
Knowledge of MTSSRTI frameworks.
Strong collaboration and communication skills.
Experience using data to guide interventions and decision-making.?Preferred Skills
Understanding of trauma-informed and restorative practices.
Experience in Professional Learning Community PLC environments.
Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers and administrators.
Knowledge of behavior interventions and Positive Behavior Supports PBIS.
