Position Summary Information

Job Description Summary

The purpose of this position is to provide support for Drama productions by sewing, repairing, altering, costume crafts, cleaning, ability to assist with purchasing costume supplies. The Student Assistant performs basic maintenance of the costume wardrobe and the facility while under direct supervision.

Minimum Qualifications

Current Del Mar College student enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours while employed.

Minimum 18 years of age.

Required Job Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Basic skills in the operation of sewing machines.

Knowledgeable in costume Crafts.

Ability to measure actors & assist designer and master tailor with costume fittings.

Strong organizational skills.

Ability to do hand sewing.

Ability to work in a busy, fast-paced shop and meet deadlines.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to work Saturdays as needed.

Ability to travel offsite for costume supplies.

Ability to be insurable by the College.

Preferred Qualifications

Drama, Art, Film majors preferred.

Knowledge of clothing patterns.

Costume design experience.

Strong artistic talent .

Working in a creative environment within close proximity of student actors.

Preferred Availability Monday-Friday 3:00 pm-6:00 pm.

Unload costumes and wardrobe purchases (boxes) from car into shop.
Move costumes (several at a time on hangers) from storage to shop, theater or dressing rooms.
