Employment Opportunity: Shrewsbury High School POSITION: Student Academic Support Specialist 2026-2027 School Year

Shrewsbury Public Schools is currently accepting applications for a Student Support Specialist for Shrewsbury High School.

This position is responsible for working with students who might at-risk and/or struggling academically and need support to help ensure their academic success. This position reports to the Director of School Counseling (Guidance) and interacts and takes direction from School Counselors and teachers, whether Special Education or general education.

The Student Support Specialist will provide students with assistance in the areas of academic achievement, college awareness/readiness/access, school success (attendance, behavior, personal, and social issues), and life skills such as organizational skills, time management, individual and social responsibility, and work ethic.

We are interested in candidates who are invested in the achievement, equity, and access of all learners in and beyond the classroom.

This position works a school year schedule (184 pupil session days plus 5 additional days to be arranged with administration). The rate of pay for this position is $36.09-$43.99 per hour, based on experience. Responsibilities include:

  • Works closely with the student support team identifying students who experience significant barriers to completing graduation requirements
  • Coordinate and supervise academic support classes/tutoring
  • Monitors individual student progress
  • Support and build upon student's organizational, note taking and study skills
  • Serves as a liaison between students and teachers
  • Works with students to investigate educational options and explore career goals
  • Evaluates school data to assist in identifying potential at-risk students
  • Makes personal contract with students, parents/guardians via a variety of methods to remove barriers to success
  • Evaluates attendance on a daily basis
  • Maintains accurate data, records, and documentation of all activities conducted and services provided

Preferred:

  • Patience and strong interpersonal skills working with a variety of stakeholders including teenage students, parents or guardians, faculty and school administration
  • Background of working as an instructional or child specific assistant, tutor, teacher or teacher's assistant, social work, or psychology
  • Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work or related fields
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Knowledge or able to be trained on student 504 plans
  • Able to quickly assimilate and learn high school and job specific routines
  • Strong knowledge of high school student needs and programming
  • Exhibits the core values of Shrewsbury Public Schools
  • Works flexibly in a changing environment
