Commercial Lender

Job Summary

Prospect screen evaluate authorize and recommend approval of commercial loans generally greater than 10 million in commitment size. Advise borrowers on the appropriate debt products their financial status and methods of payments. Manage a portfolio of commercial loans.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist the Senior Vice President, Director of Structured Finance, Banking with the build out and growth of the Banks Commercial & Industrial Structured Finance segment.
  • As necessary, provide guidance and mentorship to members of the Commercial & Industrial Lending Team.
  • Meet with new applicants to obtain information for loan applications and to answer questions about the Banks debt products and its process for approval of closing of new commercial loans.
  • Focus on upper middle-market companies within the Banks footprint, generally requiring greater than 10 million in loan commitments, with a goal of closing at least 40 million in new commitments annually.
  • Lending authority for the individual to follow the Banks Commercial Loan Policy.
  • Analyze applicant financial status, credit, and other risk parameters to determine feasibility of granting loans.
  • Originate and close loans to prospects consistent with the Banks loan policies and state and federal regulations.
  • Present new loan requests and other reports as necessary, i.e., CARs, Loan Review, Responses to the appropriate approval authorities within the Bank.
  • Stay abreast of new types of loans and other financial services and products to better meet clients needs.
  • Submit applications to credit analysts for verification and recommendation.
  • Work with clients to identify their financial goals and to find ways of reaching those goals.
  • Manage all aspects of the relationship between the Bank and the client.
  • Oversee the management of the portfolio internally to ensure that the relationship is in good standing with the Bank and all aspects of the loan agreements are being met.
  • Confer with team leader to aid in resolving commercial loan application problems as necessary.
  • Cross-sell other bank products, including deposit products, cash management, and wealth management.
  • Respond to customer and prospect inquiries.
  • Coordinate residential and commercial real estate loan requests within the Banks designated departments.
  • Assist in the collection and work out activities with troubled, non-performing assets as necessary.
  • Represent the Bank at various community functions.
  • Participate on Bank task forces and committees as assigned.
  • Perform additional duties as requested, needed, or assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge of financial institution policies and procedures.
  • Extensive knowledge of commercial lending practices and related areas.
  • Specialized knowledge or expertise in a particular industry or a few industries is a plus.
  • Knowledge of department support structures, resources, and personnel.
  • Good sales, organizational, communication, and public relations skills, particularly in working with documentation that requires special handling.
  • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of all commercial lending policies and procedures.
  • Ability to build strong relationships and alliances across the organization, ability to adapt to change, ability to multi-task, reliable, and highly self-motivated.
  • Superior customer service skills, exceeding customers expectations.
  • Fluent written and verbal English communication skills.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelors degree in business, finance, or related area.
  • Five or more years of experience in commercial banking.
  • Two or more years of experience as a commercial relationship manager or similar title, i.e., loan officer, required in an area relative to the 10 million commitment deal size.
  • Educated in banking, federal, and state regulations and laws.
  • Knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices, the financial markets, banking, and the analysis and reporting of financial data.

Working Conditions

  • Normal business office environment.
  • Day travel by car, train, or public transportation to client offices, work sites, regulatory.
  • Overnight travel occasionally.

Pay Range

$116,440.45 - $163,016.63
