Description

JOB TITLE: Structural QC Inspector (Lead)
LOCATION: Corpus Christi, TX (Onsite)
DURATION: 3-6 month contract with extensions/conversion
RATE RANGE: $44/hr.


The Role (What to Expect):
The Lead Structural QC Inspector will be responsible for leading and managing all civil QC inspection activities (e.g., pre-installation verification testing, welding, coating, support installation, field installation, etc.), ensuring they conform to engineering designs, codes, and standards. This position will lead a team of field QC inspectors and perform inspections while supporting the Quality Control Manager in achieving project quality objectives.

Responsibilities (What You ll Do):
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee all structural QC inspection activities, including assigning inspection tasks, establishing inspection priorities, and ensuring compliance with ITP, specifications, and applicable codes and Tesla standards (e.g., AWS D1.1, AISC, IBC).
  • Review, interpret, and ensure the availability of current structural drawings, specifications, welding procedure specifications (WPS), and applicable codes to field inspection staff, and verify that all structural work is performed in strict conformance with approved project documents.
  • Mentor, guide, and evaluate the performance of structural QC inspectors, providing technical direction, on-the-job training, and ensuring inspectors are qualified and certified for their assigned inspection tasks.
  • Lead the identification, documentation, and resolution of structural nonconformances, including root cause analysis and verified closeout of corrective actions.
  • Review inspection records, weld logs, material traceability, and NDE reports for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with project quality plan requirements prior to submission to the Quality Assurance department.
  • Serve as the primary liaison to the QC Manager on inspection status, open nonconformances, hold point compliance, and overall quality performance, while escalating unresolved quality issues, recurring deficiencies, and systemic concerns to the QC Manager.
  • Conduct field surveillance, audits, and pre-activity meetings for critical structural work, ensuring all hold and witness points are observed and documented in accordance with the approved ITP.

Requirements (What You ll Bring):
  • Minimum of 7 years experience as a structural QC inspector on large-scale industrial projects, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or lead capacity.
  • Demonstrated ability to read, interpret, and analyze discipline-specific technical documents, communicate effectively and professionally with field QC inspectors and the QC Manager, and lead the resolution of complex nonconforming conditions.
  • Possesses advanced knowledge of quality control program requirements and key construction codes (e.g., AWS, AISC); advanced proficiency with inspection tools and testing methods (e.g., weld gauges, bridge cam gauges, hi-lo gauges, calipers, Skidmore-Wilhelm bolt tension calibrator); proficient knowledge of NDE testing methods and procedures (RT, UT, MT, PT).
  • Demonstrates advanced problem-solving skills and the ability to lead the investigation, analysis, and resolution of complex quality control issues.
  • Possesses a comprehensive understanding of quality management principles and the ability to apply and enforce them throughout all phases of the project and system turnover walkdowns.
  • Ability to lead and perform effectively within a high-performance, cross-functional organization with extremely tight timelines and aggressive commissioning goals.
