Structural Engineer

Contract-to-Hire Opportunity
Location: Tempe, AZ

Position Overview

Our client is seeking a motivated Structural Engineer to join their growing engineering team in Tempe, Arizona. This is an excellent contract-to-hire opportunity for an engineer looking to build a long-term career working on complex industrial and commercial projects.

As a Structural Engineer, you will play a key role in performing structural analysis and design while collaborating closely with structural engineers, designers, and multidisciplinary project teams. You will contribute to the development of innovative structural solutions, prepare engineering calculations, and help ensure that design requirements are accurately reflected in project documentation and 3D models.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform structural engineering analysis and design under general supervision.
  • Assist in developing structural systems from concept through detailed design.
  • Prepare engineering calculations and technical documentation.
  • Apply structural engineering principles and applicable building codes to project designs.
  • Develop proficiency in lateral force analysis and design for wind and seismic loading.
  • Coordinate structural designs with other engineering disciplines to ensure integrated project execution.
  • Work closely with structural designers to communicate engineering requirements in drawings and BIM models.
  • Perform quality reviews and calculation checks of engineering work.
  • Maintain a high level of accuracy, organization, and attention to detail.
  • Manage assigned work to meet project schedules, budgets, and quality expectations.
  • Identify potential scope changes and communicate them to project leadership.
  • Demonstrate sound engineering judgment while seeking guidance when needed.
  • Take ownership of assigned project responsibilities from start to finish.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Structural Engineering.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification.
  • Minimum of 2 years of structural engineering experience.
  • Working knowledge of U.S. building codes, including:
    • International Building Code (IBC)
    • ASCE 7
    • ACI
    • AISC
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills.
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Civil Engineering (Structural emphasis) or Structural Engineering.
  • Experience using structural analysis software.
  • Experience with Navisworks and Bluebeam.
  • Experience designing structural steel and reinforced concrete systems.
  • Experience supporting semiconductor, manufacturing, industrial, or other complex facilities.

Work Environment

  • Hybrid work environment based in Tempe, Arizona.
  • Candidates must reside within the U.S. Southwest Region (AZ, CA, CO, HI, NM, NV, or UT).
  • Reliable high-speed internet service is required for remote work responsibilities.
