Job Title: Structural Engineer
Job Description
This Structural Engineer role leads the structural design and delivery of a wide variety of facility and marine projects, including commercial developments and municipal, state, and federal government structures. You will serve as the structural lead within a multidisciplinary team, responsible for meeting scope, schedule, and budget objectives while guiding less experienced engineers. The position covers the full project lifecycle, from initial framing plan layout through construction administration, and suits a high-energy, self-motivated engineer who thrives in a collaborative team environment and enjoys working on major projects across the East Coast.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the structural lead within a multidisciplinary project team, ensuring all structural objectives align with overall project scope, schedule, and budget.
- Manage and execute the entire structural design process, from initial framing plan layout through construction administration.
- Perform structural engineering tasks to support a multidiscipline design team, contributing technical expertise throughout the project lifecycle.
- Lead the structural team in developing structural framing layouts, detailed design calculations, and supporting structural detailing for reports and construction documents.
- Develop high-quality construction documents using Revit software and other relevant design tools.
- Design structural systems in accordance with client specifications, applicable codes, and guidelines, using discipline-specific design software and drawing tools.
- Prepare engineering documents suitable for advertisement, bidding, and construction, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and compliance with standards.
- Coordinate closely with internal and external team members to meet project deadlines and maintain established quality standards.
- Develop and maintain project-specific quality plans to support consistent and reliable project delivery.
- Oversee and manage assigned staff working on projects, including delegation of tasks and review of work products.
- Manage all structural technical resources on the project team to ensure efficient and effective use of expertise and tools.
- Act as a technical advisor to less experienced engineers, providing guidance, mentorship, and support in structural engineering best practices.
- Assist office and practice leadership with the preparation of marketing proposals for new and existing clients.
- Develop and coordinate the structural project scope within technical proposals to clearly define services and deliverables.
- Participate in client presentations, communicating design concepts, technical solutions, and project progress in a clear and professional manner.
- Lead and manage team members by setting expectations and goals, providing ongoing feedback, conducting one-on-one meetings, and coaching to support their professional growth and development.
Essential Skills
- Strong structural engineering background with experience in the design of facility and marine projects, including commercial and government structures.
- Proficiency in structural analysis and design for structural steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, and timber systems.
- Proficient use of discipline-specific design codes, references, and software related to structural engineering.
- Experience with Finite Element Modeling or building systems analysis programs such as RAM, RISA, ETABS, or SAP2000.
- General knowledge of building construction materials and construction processes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications for documentation, analysis, and communication.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary design team and collaborate with diverse technical disciplines.
- Demonstrated ability to lead structural teams, including directing framing layouts, design calculations, and structural detailing.
- Strong organizational and project management skills to manage scope, schedule, and budget for structural components.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills for preparing documents, coordinating with stakeholders, and participating in client presentations.
- Proven ability to mentor and advise less experienced engineers, supporting their technical development.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Knowledge of Revit or a strong desire and aptitude to learn Revit for structural modeling and documentation.
- Experience developing construction documents using Revit software.
- Experience preparing engineering documents for advertisement and construction.
- Experience developing and maintaining project-specific quality plans.
- Experience assisting with marketing proposals and contributing to technical scopes in proposals.
- Experience leading and managing team members, including performance management, goal setting, feedback, and coaching.
