Structural Engineer (Mid-level)Harlingen, TexasAs a member of Garver's growing Water Design Center, the Structural Engineer will be responsible for assisting in the development of structural designs in support of various Water Business Line projects. Generally, this responsibility will include structural support as required for a variety of water and wastewater projects, but the majority of the expected assignments will be related to developing structural designs for new water and wastewater treatment plants or improvements to existing water and wastewater treatment facilities.The Structural Engineer must have a strong knowledge base of engineering principals including concrete, steel, and masonry design. Knowledge of the provisions of the International Building Code and its referenced material Codes is preferred.Candidates must have strong technical problem solving and critical thinking skills, be self‑motivated, enjoy team‑oriented work, and have good oral and written communications. Candidates must have a basic understanding of the multi‑discipline practices (process, surveying, geotechnical, structural, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation & control) required for the implementation of infrastructure capital improvements. Candidates should also possess strong communication skills to assist project teams and maintain internal client relationships. Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Outlook is required; experience with AutoCAD, Revit, or MicroStation is preferred. A basic knowledge of finite element modeling using plates and frame elements is also desirable.Some travel may be required, as projects may require field work for site assessment of project locations and support during construction.ResponsibilitiesBe technically competent in aspects of structural engineering.Work with a team of multi‑disciplined project engineers, design engineers, and BIM technicians in the development of construction plans and specifications for water and wastewater treatment plant projects.Work on multiple projects concurrently.Assist in the development of project budgets, including detailed project instructions, scope of work, level of effort, and associated man‑hour estimates.Be responsible for time management and work product quality.Keep accurate and up‑to‑date project accounting on all assigned projects.Conduct written and oral project reporting for clients and team leaders, including project design status, upcoming milestones, project accounting, percent complete, and progress reports.Assist in the preparation and execution of Quality Assurance and Quality Control Plans for water and wastewater treatment projects.Assist with internal and external project workshops.Be responsible for continuing education and learning based on project needs and overall team needs.RequirementsBachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering from an ABET‑accredited program.5–10 years of technical experience in structural design engineering.Basic understanding of structural engineering design in concrete, masonry, and structural steel.PE or ability to obtain a PE registration with 2 years.Preferred SkillsMaster's degree in civil or structural engineering.Registration as a PE or willingness to take the NCEES Professional Engineer exam within 2 years.Working knowledge of Revit CAD programs.Experience with structural complexities associated with water and wastewater treatment equipment.Experience working with a multi‑disciplinary team comprising process, structural, building mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation & control disciplines.Active participation in local professional organizations.Garver is committed to providing equal employment opportunities to all applicants and employees.
