Structural Engineer in Training

We are seeking a detail-oriented Structural Engineer in Training with at least three years of professional experience to join our growing team in Sacramento, CA. You will design, analyze, and oversee structural systems for a diverse range of commercial, residential, and infrastructure projects. Working closely with architects, contractors, and project managers, you will deliver safe, efficient, and code-compliant structural solutions that clients can count on.What You'll DoPerform structural analysis and design calculations using industry-standard software and methodologiesDevelop detailed structural drawings, specifications, and technical documentation in compliance with applicable building codes and standardsConduct site assessments and evaluations to identify structural requirements and potential challengesCollaborate with multidisciplinary teams including architects, MEP engineers, and contractors to ensure project coordination and successful executionReview and evaluate construction documents, shop drawings, and submittals for structural complianceProvide technical support during construction administration and resolve on-site structural issuesOptimize structural designs for cost-effectiveness, sustainability, and constructabilityKeep project files and documentation organized and audit‑readyKeep pace with evolving building codes, industry standards, and best practices, and bring that knowledge into your daily workPresent technical findings and recommendations clearly to clients, team members, and stakeholdersQualificationsBachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering; Master's degree preferredEIT certification requiredPE certification obtained or actively in progressAt least three years of relevant full‑time experience in structural engineering designProficiency in structural analysis software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, ETABS, SAP2000)Solid understanding of structural engineering principles, mechanics, and materialsKnowledge of building codes, standards, and construction practicesStrong analytical and problem‑solving skills with attention to detailEffective written and verbal communication skills for clear project documentation and collaborationComfortable owning your work independently while actively engaging as a collaborative team memberPhysical Demands and Work EnvironmentThis role includes regular desk work and occasional site visits, which may involve climbing ladders, navigating uneven terrain, and light lifting (up to 15 lbs).CompensationThe base salary for this role is competitive, with a range of $75,000 – $100,000, determined by experience, education, and skills. KPFF also offers performance‑based bonuses to recognize outstanding contributions.
