Overview IES is seeking a licensed Structural Engineer to support the design, analysis, and field execution of modular data center projects. This role spans both office-based structural engineering and active project site involvement, requiring expertise in the structural systems that underpin mission-critical modular facilities. The ideal candidate brings technical depth in structural design for modular or prefabricated construction, practical field judgment, and the ability to collaborate closely with engineering, project management, and operations teams.Location & Reporting Location: Sugar Land, Texas - OnsiteReports To: Chief Technical OfficerKey Responsibilities Structural Design and Analysis: Perform structural analysis and design for modular data center facilities, including structural frames, foundations, floor systems, wall panels, and roof assembliesDevelop and review structural drawings, specifications, and calculations for modular units and site infrastructurePrepare and stamp engineering documents as required by project specifications, permitting authorities, or clientsEvaluate structural systems for load capacity, code compliance, and compatibility with mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems within modular buildsEnsure all designs comply with applicable building codes, standards, and regulations, including IBC, ASCE 7, and local jurisdictional requirementsCoordinate with project managers, estimators, mechanical and electrical engineers, and operations leadership during pre-construction and design phasesSupport value engineering efforts to optimize structural systems for cost, schedule, and constructabilityField and Project Support: Conduct site visits to assess foundation and site conditions, verify structural installation compliance, and support field teamsProvide technical guidance to field crews on structural requirements and assembly methods during construction and module installationReview and interpret field conditions and recommend design modifications as neededParticipate in project kickoff meetings, progress reviews, and client-facing discussionsSupport structural commissioning, inspections, and project closeout activitiesCompliance and Quality: Maintain current knowledge of applicable structural codes, modular construction standards, and regulatory requirementsSupport quality assurance processes and ensure all structural deliverables meet company, client, and jurisdictional standardsIdentify and resolve technical issues that arise during design or field executionRequired Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited institutionActive Professional Engineer (PE) license, requiredMinimum [X] years of structural engineering experience, preferably in modular construction, data centers, or mission-critical facilitiesProficiency in structural analysis and design software (e.g., RISA, SAP2000, AutoCAD, or similar)Working knowledge of IBC, ASCE 7, and other relevant structural codes and standardsAbility to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and geotechnical reportsValid driver\'s license and ability to travel to project sites and fabrication facilities as requiredPreferred Qualifications Experience with modular or prefabricated building structural systemsFamiliarity with data center design standards and mission-critical facility requirementsSE (Structural Engineer) licensure in applicable statesExperience with design-build project delivery in a contractor environmentFamiliarity with seismic design requirements and bracing systems for equipment and modular structures, including compliance with ASCE 7 seismic provisionsProficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and project management toolsWorking Conditions This position requires a combination of office, fabrication facility, and field work. Assignments may involve exposure to active construction and manufacturing environments, outdoor conditions, and varying physical demands.
