We believe that building relationships with our clients and understanding their specific needs and goals leads to the highest quality and most economical engineering solutions.Yates Engineers is looking to expand our Birmingham, Alabama office by hiring highly qualified Senior Structural Engineers with 10+ years' experience . As a Structural Engineer, you will be responsible for leading structural project teams and performing all aspects of design of structural engineering assignments throughout the design and construction process. This work will be performed under general supervision.Primary job responsibilities will include but are not limited to:Managing a team of structural engineers and designers on small, medium and large projects, ensuring each project meets budget and scheduleCoordinating project staffing for managed projects and conveying staffing needs to department manager.Developing structural schedule and incorporation into overall project scheduleUpdating monthly project forecast, including estimates to complete and earned valuePerforming detailed design calculations and developing sketches for materials of construction associated with a project as assigned by a design leaderDesigning structural components for project needs as directed by lead engineer with complexity increasing with experienceDevelop engineering (workhour) estimates and scopes for proposalsDeveloping estimate level preliminary designs and material take-offs suitable for the level of the estimate being performed on a projectDeveloping construction specificationsProviding information to and assisting designers as required for the completion of engineering drawingsAssisting designers in resolving layout and detailing issues via sufficient sketches necessary for completion of engineering drawingsAdapting structural plans as needed to budget constraints, schedules, design factors or client needsChecking calculations performed by other engineers to ensure accuracy and conformance to codes, specifications, design criteria.Developing conceptual layouts and cost studies to determine the simplest, most effective solutionAssisting in development of scope, drawing, and specification bid packagesReviewing vendor drawings and provided structural input as requiredReviewing fabrication drawings and other construction submittals for conformance to released drawings and specificationsFamiliarity with and utilizing department design standardsFamiliarity with project scope, specifications, schedules and design criteria based upon the client and projectCoordinate with other disciplines as requiredMentoring and providing technical guidance to structural engineers and structural designersPerforming fieldwork necessary to gather dimensions, structural sizes, and provide construction supportThis position offers a highly competitive compensation package, including paid time off, health insurance benefits, and matching retirement contributions.Professional background should include:Education: Bachelor or Master of Science in Structural Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited programRegistration: PE and/or SE is requiredExperience: Minimum 10 years of related experience in structural engineeringKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities include but are not limited to:Knowledge of standard engineering techniques and proceduresKnowledgeable in the application of the International Building Code and associated standards (ASCE, AISC, ACI, etc.)Experience leading small, medium, and large structural teamsExperience mentoring other structural engineersDeep understanding of structural analysis software: RISA, STAAD, TEDDS, etc.Working knowledge of drafting software: AutoCAD and/or Revit softwareProficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications: Word, Excel, Outlook and TeamsStrong communication skills, both written and verbalAnalytical thinker with strong problem-solving skillsWillingness to visit job sitesThis position requires the ability to sit, stand, and/or walk for long periods of time. Travel and/or visits to various job sites are required.
