Stress Engineer – Mechanical / Structural (Piping & Power Systems)
We’re seeking a Stress Engineer to join our Stress & Structural Engineering team, supporting the design and analysis of complex mechanical systems used in industrial and power generation projects.
In this role, you’ll be responsible for ensuring the structural integrity and constructability of piping systems, ductwork, skids, pressure parts, and steel support structures. You’ll work closely with engineering, fabrication, and vendor teams to deliver safe, code-compliant, and buildable designs from concept through execution.
What you’ll do
- Perform structural and piping stress analysis for ductwork, frames, skids, piping systems, pressure parts, and supports
- Develop load diagrams for equipment, ducting, and structural steel systems
- Ensure integrity and constructability of piping and structural designs across multiple projects
- Conduct site investigations and gather field data to support accurate design development
- Build and work within 3D analysis models for new and modified systems
- Review and interpret engineering drawings including GA’s, P&IDs, piping layouts, and isometrics
- Prepare clear engineering deliverables including calculations, sketches, markups, and reports
- Review vendor engineering work for compliance with scope, schedule, and technical requirements
- Verify designs meet applicable codes, standards, and customer specifications
- Support proposal development including man-hour and material estimating
- Participate in coordination meetings with internal teams, customers, and external engineering partners
What we’re looking for
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Structural Engineering (Master’s a plus)
- 5+ years of experience in piping, ductwork, pressure parts, or structural steel design
- Strong understanding of ASME codes (BPVC Section I, B31.1, B31.3)
- Knowledge of welding standards (AWS D1.1/D1.3, ASME Section IX)
- Experience with stress analysis and design tools such as STAAD.Pro, AutoPIPE, or CAESAR II
- Familiarity with Navisworks for model review, clash detection, and coordination
- Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and specifications
- Strong communication and documentation skills
- Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities under deadlines
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed
- PE license preferred (or in progress)
