This job was posted by https://www.azjobconnection.gov : For more information, please see: https://www.azjobconnection.gov/jobs/7476272 General Purpose Performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled repairs and maintenance work, can operate a variety of equipment in the construction, operation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of City water, sewer, streets, City services and systems, and parks maintenance in a drug and alcohol-free environment. **POSITION EXPECTATIONS** - This position requires the ability and willingness to perform continuous, hands-on physical labor outdoors in all weather conditions. - The people who fill this position should also possess existing skills and experience performing a variety of craft, skills, and technical abilities and bring additional specialties skills that enhance their value to the position. - The people who fill this position should be self-starters who are inherently motivated, work well together as a team, and take the initiative in determining what needs to be done, or proactively seek out their supervisor for direction to ensure their productivity for the City. - That all PW department employees understand they are in essence ambassadors for the City, working towards a common goal, shared by other departments of the City, to provide quality municipal services and are committed to take on that role with pride and professionalism when working in view of the public, working directly with residence, or working with members of other City departments. - It is our desire that people who fill this position will want to stay and grow with the City as employees and team members. Examples of Duties - Assists with the planning, scheduling and implementation of construction, maintenance, and operation and construction activities designed to provide quality water, sewer, street and drainage service for the city. - Inspects and/or repairs chlorine injection equipment, booster pumping stations, reservoirs, meters, streets, drainage systems and sewer system at frequent intervals to ensure that all aspects of the system are functioning properly. - Maintains a variety of records relating to inspections, maintenance activity, water supply, consumption, etc. - Must be able to determine location through blue stake process for gas, telephone, phone, power, cable, water, and sewer lines from the appropriate sources prior to excavation - Responds to complaints regarding water leaks, pressure loss or no water; evaluates situation; explains findings to supervisor. - Contacts residents and business owners in areas where services will be discontinued and explain when services will be shut off and how soon it will be turned back on. - Mows and maintains parks and open space areas; mows lawns; weeds, maintains sprinkler systems and assists in the repair and installation of sprinkler lines and heads. Maintains trails and improvements. Inspects, washes, and performs routine maintenance of drinking fountains and restrooms. Sweeps, washes, paints, and repairs or replaces outdoor tables and slabs. Performs minor unskilled or semi-skilled maintenance of open space structures such as restrooms, shelters, maintenance sheds, etc. by performing custodial, maintenance, painting, plumbing, carpentry, and other unskilled and semi-skilled trades work. Performs routine maintenance on lawn and power equipment. Plants lawns, trees, shrubs, and flowers. Carries out the seeding, fertilizing, top dressing, soil conditioning, watering, and the pest and weed control of parks and open spaces. Maintains and adjusts speci lized turf care equipment and tools, including electric motors, pumps, sprinklers, tractors, mowers, and irrigation systems. Operates tractors, mowers, jack hammers, welders, trucks, steam cleaners, buffers, washers, and other listed equipment as needed. Maintains current skills and knowledge in the proper and safe techniques of building and grounds maintenance functions. Collects and disposes of solid waste from buildings and grounds; picks up litter from premises. Assists in setting up and taking down equipment for various functions and programs, prepares facilities for program use. Assists in the construction of new open space facilities, including clearing, grading, drainage, and foundation work. Ensures the proper maintenance of equipment and tools by cleaning and checking equipment and tools after use. Drives trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling and unloading of various equipment, gravel and sand. Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor; cleans equipment.
