POSITIONS SUPERVISED: None

Leadership: Provides co-worker leadership to others through motivation, team building, and providing feedback.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
POSITION PURPOSE: Assists in the prevention of flooding by the effective management of a storm water drainage system.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or six months related experience and /or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
CERTIFICATES/LICENSES:
Class A CDL upon hire. Department of Agriculture spraying license within 1 year of employment.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:
Chemistry: Basic knowledge of the chemical composition, structure, and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo. This includes uses of chemicals and their interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods.
Mechanical: Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
SKILLS/ABILITIES:
PHYSICAL & MENTAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION
FINGER DEXTERITY:
Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items and work with the fingers.
VISUAL ABILITIES:
Normal vision, with or without corrective lenses. Color vision. Peripheral vision. Depth perception.
PHYSICAL STRENGTH:
PDC Level: Heavy Employee lifts/carries 50 lbs. occasionally (less than 33% of the time or 1-100 times per day). Ability to ascend/descend a 24" step. Ability to work with a rod or pole with a 10 lb weight attached to it (to simulate tree trimming). Ability to shovel material. Ability to walk with backpack blower for extended period of time. Ability to push/pull asphalt material using tools. Ability to twist/turn while seated (to simulate clearing for obstacles while operating equipment).
LANGUAGE/COMPREHENSION:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
MATHEMATICS ABILITY:
Ability to perform very basic math skills including adding and subtracting two-digit numbers, multiplying and dividing with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of money and weight or distance measurement.
WORK SCHEDULE/HOURS:
Regular - 8-hour shift, typically 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., Monday - Friday
Summer Hours: 8-hour shift, typically 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m., Monday - Friday
Rotation based highway hours: 4:00 a.m. - 12:30 a.m. when cleaning highways is required
May be required to work nights and weekends during flooding and snow and ice events, 10-12 hours.
Early morning or night time hours could be required for work that would need to be done in high traffic areas, very limited.
Other - Variable lunch period and breaks in coordination with other personnel.
WORK CONDITIONS:
Outdoors exposed to changing weather conditions (rain, sun, wind, snow, etc.)
Noise level:
Frequent exposure to loud noise, wearing of hearing protection required.
Other work conditions:
Moderate exposure to air contamination. Moderate exposure to debris thrown up by mower, wearing of protective eyewear required. Constant vibration. Improperly illuminated or awkward and confining workspace.
ADVANCEMENT CRITERIA
INTERMEDIATE:
5-7 years experience.
Proficient ability to operate grader and dozer.
Advanced ability to operate heavy equipment in department.
Ability to fill in for foreman for intermediate periods of time.
Valid CPR certification.
ADVANCED:
8+ years experience.
Ability to make minor equipment repairs.
Expert ability to operate grade and dozer.
Expert ability to operate all heavy machinery in department.
Ability to fill in for foreman for extended periods of time.
Advanced safety training.
Ability to train co-workers.
Lead worker of heavy equipment operators.
