This is entry level work in the operation of trucks and other specialized mechanical equipment, and the performance of heavy manual labor related to the cleaning, maintenance, Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) inspection, and repair of the City’s storm and sanitary sewer systems with the City Engineering Division. Under direction, employees will perform a variety of laboring tasks, and operate related equipment as assigned. Work is typically subject to review, although employees are expected to exercise some judgment within established guidelines. Specific work assignments may vary based on the needs of the Division.
Employees generally become a Street and Sewer Machine Operator 1 after successfully completing 12 months as a Street and Sewer Maintenance Worker 1 within the Engineering Division.
Qualified applicants who possess a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License with a tanker vehicle (N) endorsement at the time of hire, may be hired immediately at the Street and Sewer Machine Operator 1 level. Movement to a Street and Sewer Machine Operator 2 and/or 3 is based on a competitive process and the needs of the department.
Candidates hired as Street and Sewer Maintenance Worker 1 start at $57,862.22 annually. Candidates hired as Street and Sewer Machine Operator 1 start at $60,392.28 annually.
Employees will start at Step 3 of the Salary Schedule. Employees will advance to Step 4 after successful completion of 30 months of employment and will advance to Step 5 after successful completion of 42 months of employment. Employees receive longevity pay starting with the fifth year of continuous permanent employment.
Regular work hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM. This position is scheduled for 40 hours per week.
