We are seeking a Customer Engagement Manager (CEM) to join our Worldwide Public Sector Sales team, supporting Education and State & Local Government customers. In this role, you will serve as a strategy and customer engagement leader, acting as an extension of senior executive leadership, partnering directly with account teams to accelerate revenue, remove blockers, and build scalable go-to-market solutions that drive AWS adoption across SLG and EDU. This is a strategy and customer engagement position that requires you to deeply understand customer missions, work backwards from their needs, and orchestrate the full breadth of AWS resources, translating leadership priorities into execution, leading complex initiatives with significant bottom-line impact, and orchestrating high-impact customer engagements that deepen AWS"s strategic influence and accelerate deal velocity. You will leverage voice-of-customer insights and competitive intelligence to develop repeatable frameworks that improve close rates, navigate competitive situations, and position AWS as the preferred cloud partner at scale.

Key job responsibilities

  • Partner with account teams and senior leadership to identify blockers, accelerate deals, and translate strategic priorities into execution. Lead complex, high-impact initiatives that drive SLG/EDU revenue growth, aligning cross-functional teams, influencing external partnerships and customers, and building scalable solutions that proactively address go-to-market gaps. Operate as an extension of senior leadership to make tradeoffs, mitigate risk, and drive innovation at broad organizational scale.
  • Strategic Customer Engagement: Build and maintain executive-level relationships with key customer stakeholders and own the associated preparation for customer meetings on behalf of your senior leadership.
  • Mission-Driven Planning: Work backwards from customer mission objectives to develop comprehensive engagement strategies that align AWS capabilities with institutional and state-wide priorities.
  • Account Strategy & Growth: Partner with account teams to support deal acceleration, competitive positioning, helping remove blockers, that drive adoption, expansion, and long-term strategic value. Develop repeatable strategies (gathered from customer or org-wide patterns) that drive predictable revenue outcomes, reduce deal-by-deal customization, and ensure AWS is positioned to win.
  • Executive Communication: Prepare and deliver executive briefings, business reviews, and strategic recommendations to both internal and external senior leadership.
  • Thought Leadership: Drive strategic customer engagement by representing the SLG/EDU organization at industry events, customer forums, executive roundtables, and advisory councils, using these platforms to deepen relationships, validate AWS"s value proposition, and shape sector-specific points of view that articulate why AWS is the preferred cloud partner for public sector and education missions. Contribute to the development of messaging, best practices, and market positioning that equip field teams and customers with a compelling "Why AWS" narrative grounded in real-world outcomes.

At Amazon, we don’t wait for the next big idea to present itself. We envision the shape of impossible things and then we boldly make them reality. So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
