- Pay Rate: $30.00 – $34.63 per Hour (based on experience)
Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Sterile Processing Technician to support the decontamination, inspection, assembly, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments and medical equipment. The ideal candidate will ensure compliance with infection prevention standards, manufacturer instructions, and industry best practices while maintaining the highest levels of quality, safety, and efficiency in sterile processing operations.
Responsibilities
- Perform decontamination of surgical instruments and medical equipment using proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and infection-control procedures.
- Disassemble, clean, inspect, test, and reassemble surgical instruments according to manufacturer Instructions for Use (IFUs).
- Assemble, package, and prepare instrument trays and surgical sets for sterilization and clinical use.
- Operate sterilization and decontamination equipment, including autoclaves, washer disinfectors, and related processing systems.
- Inspect instruments and equipment for cleanliness, functionality, integrity, and damage before sterilization.
- Identify, document, and report damaged, missing, or malfunctioning instruments according to departmental procedures.
- Maintain accurate sterilization records, tracking logs, and inventory documentation.
- Monitor inventory levels of instruments, supplies, and processing materials.
- Perform routine cleaning, testing, and maintenance of sterilization equipment.
- Maintain organized, clean, and compliant work areas.
- Adhere to ANSI/AAMI standards, infection prevention protocols, regulatory requirements, and departmental policies.
- Support quality assurance, patient safety, and infection prevention initiatives.
- Communicate effectively with surgical teams, clinical staff, and department personnel.
- Participate in continuing education, certification maintenance, and process improvement efforts.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Certifications
- Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST), Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS), or equivalent Sterile Processing certification required.
Experience
- Minimum one (1) year of hands-on Sterile Processing experience required.
- Experience working with surgical instruments and sterile processing workflows required.
- Knowledge of steam sterilization processes and decontamination procedures required.
- Experience following manufacturer Instructions for Use (IFUs) and industry standards required.
