Job Title: Sterile Processing Technician
Location: Long Beach, CA 90805
Schedule: Full-Time — 40 Hours/Week (8 Hours/Day, 5 Days/Week)
Compensation:
- Pay Rate: $30–$33/hr based on experience
Position Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented Sterile Processing Technician to support the decontamination, inspection, assembly, sterilization, and maintenance of surgical instruments and medical equipment. The ideal candidate will ensure all instruments meet infection prevention, safety, and quality standards while following ANSI/AAMI guidelines, manufacturer Instructions for Use (IFUs), and established departmental procedures.
Responsibilities:
- Perform decontamination of surgical instruments and medical equipment using proper PPE and infection-control procedures
- Disassemble, clean, inspect, and reassemble complex surgical instruments according to manufacturer IFUs
- Assemble and package instrument trays and surgical sets accurately
- Operate sterilization and decontamination equipment including autoclaves and washer disinfectors
- Inspect instruments for cleanliness, functionality, and damage prior to sterilization
- Document damaged, missing, or malfunctioning instruments according to standard operating procedures
- Maintain accurate sterilization records, tracking logs, and inventory documentation
- Monitor inventory levels for instruments, supplies, and processing materials
- Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of sterilization equipment
- Maintain organized, clean, and compliant work areas
- Follow ANSI/AAMI standards, infection-control procedures, and company work instructions
- Support quality assurance and infection prevention initiatives
- Communicate effectively with team members and operational staff
- Participate in ongoing training, certification maintenance, and process improvement activities
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
Experience:
- Minimum 1 year of hands-on sterile processing experience required
- Strong knowledge of:
- Surgical instruments
- Steam sterilization techniques
- Infection-control practices
- ANSI/AAMI standards
- Manufacturer IFUs
Skills:
- Experience operating autoclaves, washer disinfectors, and related sterilization equipment
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Strong manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
- Basic computer and electronic tracking system proficiency
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Professional, reliable, and team-oriented work ethic
Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
Certifications:
- Certified Sterile Processing Technician certification required (CRCST, CIS, or equivalent)
